Can you cut vivelle patch in half?

Hey was wondering if you can cut vivelle patch in half. Currently on .1 and I have headaches and nausea. Was wondering if I can cut in half and bring it to a dose .05. And see if that helps? Will it still work properly and will it be consider a .05 dose? Just so I can tell my doctor next time I just don't want to waste what I have.

Re: Can you cut vivelle patch in half?

While not recommended, yes you can cut the patch. Be sure and seal the other half before storing it.

You're not supposed to, but I do cut my patch. I was prescribed the .1 and when that dose was too much she had me cut it. I now use 3/4=.075 patch now. Really make sure that you seal all edges though. Cutting your dose in half might really bring on some heavy duty symptoms.

Re: Can you cut vivelle patch in half?

Yes, the patch can be cut and the other half used later if you are very careful. However, the drop from 0.1mg/day to .05mg/day is rather large. If you are currently wearing your patches on your backside, you could just switch to the front of your abdomen and that would cut the dose by about 20% (+/-). That might be a gentler way to experiment with lowering the dose.

Alternatively, you could ask your DR for some samples of the .075mg/day patches.

I have been wearing it on the front and still getting headache and nausea. I cut it today and so far no problems so we will see. I'm only 10 days post op and I could still have some of my natural hormones so I thought I might see for now and then I can always go up

I am about 10 days past surgery and wondering what dose has worked out for you. The day after my surgery my doctor had me put on the .1 a day vivelle dot patch, I changed it 3 and a half days later and within a week I was feeling deathly ill from too much estrogen. My heart was racing, I felt like my whole insides were shaking, my temp was 95.4, I felt nauseated and dizzy. My face, tongue, neck and left arm went numb. I took the patch off and started feeling better within about 5 hours. That was 2 days ago that I removed the patch and I don't know when I might start needing to add estrogen again. I wish I knew of how to get my levels tested. I just do not want levels to suddenly drop and be a mess. I have 4 kids ages 13 to 20....and and baby that is one. My husband is a truck driver and gone a lot so I need to make this hormone transition as smooth as possible for all our sakes. Too many tears shed already.

I couldn't take the patch either. As of right now they have me on estrodiol 1 mg pill. I half it and take one in the morning and one around 4 or 5. It seems to help to take a half. Because I took the whole pill at first and it wore off by that night. It hasn't stopped my symptoms but it has helped I go back in two months to check my levels and see how it's doing. It seems like every doctor wants to slap a patch on you and say good luck. You just have to be stern and tell them everything that's going on and get what you need it might take 10 different tries but then again the next thing you try might work. I know it's a pain in the butt. I hope you get everything worked out. If you need some more help with anything let me know. Good luck and hugs
