pre op w. cardiologist tomorrow

have my pre op tomorrow with my cardiologist and wonder why everything and anything having to do with my hyster, causes me great anxiety. i expect to get the green light for surgery and anxious to get my LONG list of questions answered. Also excited to discover which drugs are on the dos and do not list. i am hoping the DO NOT list is short....... also hope some of my fears will diminish after this dr. appt. counting on my cardiologist to give me the mental boost i need. the anticipation (scheduled LAVH BSO jan. 17) is killing me. stay well everyone and happy holidays.

Re: pre op w. cardiologist tomorrow

The do's and don'ts list can get long, but is it important you follow it all.

My don'ts were asprin, ibuprofin, fish oil pills, and vitamin E. Also be sure to tell them EVERYTHING and ANYTHING you are taking - herbs, tea, OC meds, vitamins, etc. When I saw the fish oil pills on the list, I called my doc and ask about flax seed (I grind it and put it in my yogurt). I did not even think about it when I first completed my survey. They told me to stop taking that as well, because it thins your blood. So be sure to mention everything, even if it seems unimportant!

Good luck with your pre-op.

Re: pre op w. cardiologist tomorrow

I was told no herb teas, aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and other things I can't remember right now for two weeks prior to surgery. I took nothing but a couple of vitamin C and Tylenol during that time frame.

Re: pre op w. cardiologist tomorrow

cardiologist tells me i have no restrictions for anesthesia during Op and also no restrictions for pain meds post Op. why that is that the best news i've heard all day. yippee! he wants me to stop aspirin, fish oil & flax seed (which i put in my yogurt) the first of the year and only resume aspirin & fish oil post Op if i am not having bleeding issues. all other meds stay in place (beta blocker 2xday, mag64 - 4xday & pottasium 2x day) which i assume hospital will provide the day of Op and post Op up and through my release. now i will sit back till after the holidays when i meet with the anesthesiologist on jan 4 & gyn on jan 6. happy holidays everyone.
