Getting Really Frustrated (3Wks To Go)

I am scheduled for a TAH on January 12th. I purposely picked that time frame because of a trip I had planned in December. I am now wishing I had done it last month when I first found out I needed it. The waiting is starting to get to me. The bleeding, pressure, pain and irritation from my symptoms is driving me crazy. I think my uterus knows what's going to happen to it and its trying to make me as miserable as possible before I have it removed.

I've had fibroids for about 8 years now. When I was first diagnosed, my uterus was the size of a 2 month pregnancy. I took the wait and see option since I wasn't having any symptoms. 2 years later, my periods started lasting really long, coming frequently and started being extremely heavy. I was put on the pill to try to regulate it. 6 months ago, my periods got really painful. Painful to the point where I could not function. Thank goodness I work from home! Medication is not working, and I was going through so many products, I had to try the diva cup. That was ok, but with the clots I found I had to change it almost every 30 minutes. I also started feeling pressure on my bladder which is making me go the restroom a lot. I have always been anemic and the iron pills make me sick. Now, my uterus is the size of a 5 month pregancy. The ultra sound showed that there were too many fibroids to count and they all are very large. They are causing all kinds of problems. Thank goodness the biopsy for endo came back negative.

I had done my research before I went to my doctor and was prepared for her recommendation. (This site has been very helpful). I originally wanted a myomectomy, but after seeing the film, I don't want to risk being under long enough for her to try to remove each and every single one. Then run the risk of her not getting all of them and having to have it done again in the future. After our discussion, she let me decide which route I wanted to take, which I appreciated.

I am lucky I found this site. My sisters and husband are supportive, but I know they are tired of me complaining and probably don't want to hear the details of what I'm going through. I am off work for the rest of the year on Vacation trying to get the house ready for recovery. My husband will be here, but still has to work during the day. My sister is going to work from home from my house the first week but I still want to make sure I can help myself when necessary.

Thank you sisters for all of your knowledge and support. Whenever I am frustrated, worried, or just need to stop stressing, I log on to this site and read. Today I felt like posting so thanks for being here for me. 3 weeks to go. I know it will be here before I know it, but I can't wait to be back home recovering, and sharing my story.

Re: Getting Really Frustrated (3Wks To Go)

The 3 weeks will go by faster than you think. Time sort of gets strange where it either seems to be rushing by too fast or creeping along. I chose my surgery time to be between quarters for school and it felt so long and so short.

Re: Getting Really Frustrated (3Wks To Go)

Like Whirlygig said - time gets wierd while you're waiting. For me, it seemed slow and then suddenly, "OGM! Surgery is the day after tomorrow and I'm not ready! Where did the time go and how am I going to get everything done?"

I have had the same problems as you have and when I finally decided to have the hyster, I embraced the idea with a sense of relief and anticipation and have no regrets.

Best of luck to you.

Re: Getting Really Frustrated (3Wks To Go)

It is good you could plan this for after your trip. You will need time to rest and recuperate. DH and I had to cancel our trip because of my hysterectomy - it was a big surprise for me, had to be done very quickly. By the time our trip was supposed to happen two months later there was no way I could go.

As you prepare for this surgery, focus on things that need to get done for your down time. It helps take your mind off things and you will be glad you got these things done after your hysterectomy when you are recovering.

Re: Getting Really Frustrated (3Wks To Go)

I have til February 23. THis is my first post! I am so torn emotionally sometimes. I think my poor hubby is gonna kill me before Feb. LOL I have been having stomach problems for almost a year. First we thought it was Celiacs, or IBS and then I started having pain with sex and really bad bloating. I am being seen on base, so I have to go to military dr's. I finally got a pap because my Dr. said she thought my cervix looked infected. My pap came back abnormal and the antibiotics she gave me didnt do anything. So, now I have to have a colposcpy and biopsy. But, in the mean time they did an ultrasound only to find that my uterus is twice its normal size,. I have many fibroids and the largest is 10cm. They couldnt visualize my ovaries. I got a referral to an OBGYN on base and she said that I need the hysterectomy. She also ordered an MRI, I guess to rule out any sort of cancer and to get a guide for where everything is for surgery. I am nervous as heck. My hormones are a mess. My stomach is very swollen. I look 5 months pregnant. The wierd thing is that it starts out okay int he morning and then gets SO big as the day goes on. My jeans barely fit anymore. UGH!!! And I still have to wait until Feb. I am a little nervous about anything being cancerous. BUt, I guess one appointment at a time is how I am going to have to take it.
I also wont get paid while Im out for surgery. She wants to do it vaginally and take everything except ovaries. I worry about taking my cervix.. but, after a few bad paps and a chryo surgery, I guess its best. SO mucht to think about . I think my big stress right now is knowing I will be uncomfortable for 2 months waiting on surgery and then 2 motnhs or so of recovery! UGHHHH ANy advice??

Re: Getting Really Frustrated (3Wks To Go)

hi Ladies,

I know how you are feeling! I have almost two weeks to go and can't wait to get this over with. Trust me the time will pass. 3 weeks ago I thought i wasn't going to make it, but i distracted myself with other things. When it feels like I can't wait any longer I just think that very soon I will never feel like this again!

Best wishes to all the princesses in waiting.....we can get through this!!

Okay, deep breath, sweetie. I know this can be really unnerving to have something like that growing inside you. And having to wait until February would be troubling for anyone.

My understanding is that the MRI can give a different look than what the ultrasound did - especially since they could not see your ovaries. Just think of it as a different type of picture. I had both as well after they discovered my large ovarian cyst (11 x 9 x 10 cm) and numerous fibroids. (Mine turned out to be benign, thankfully, but that was not known until they did a pathology on the cyst in the OR.) The biopsy done on you should give your docs a better idea of the type of tissue you are dealing with - benign or cancerous. But take this one day at a time; I know it is hard, but don't get ahead of yourself diagnosis wise.

Post away on this site. It is full of wonderful, strong women - many of whom were where you are right now. We understand the emotions you are feeling. This site also has lots of information on it. You may want to start by looking at the pre-op section.

(((Hugs))) to you...

Re: Getting Really Frustrated (3Wks To Go)

I agree with marestail... ultrasounds taken over the past four years were analyzed with completely different dimensions for my uterus... many of them implied it was much larger than it ended up being when it was removed and examined.

My doctor first mentioned possibility of hysterectomy way back in 2009 as a resort IF the polyps she'd removed came back on a chronic basis. I had one simple d&c 18 months later, but then less than a year later, the polyps were back for the third time and tissue samples were ominous - no cancer but they were beginning to change. I am so glad I had enough monitoring during the past couple of years that our ultimate decision to remove all organs happened when it did.

The pathology report showed potential problems in my cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and both ovaries. I am so relieved to know we addressed half a dozen concerns in one swoop, and recovery feels GREAT!!!

Best wishes. It doesn't hurt to have this time to prepare, not just in practical terms but in emotional ones. Connect with people who can offer you the support you need, and avoid those who do not contribute to your best interests. Keep us posted on your progress!

Re: Getting Really Frustrated (3Wks To Go)

Hang in there! That is a long time to wait, but as others have advised me, focus on getting ready. I will keep you in my prayers. I'm trying to stay focused and positive. Sometimes it's hard, but the alternative is to stress and that can't be good!

Re: Getting Really Frustrated (3Wks To Go)

So, I am wondering.. I have asked for a second opinion. I think the chances of NOT needing surgery are pretty slim.. With the size of my uterus and the size of the fibroid. BUT I am wondering if anyone has had any luck with other methods? I am thinking maybe there has to be something that can shrink the tumors before I get them out in 2 months. For one, it will make me less HUGE and also it must make surgery a little better if they dont have such BIG things to take out. In the last 10 days my stomach has gone from just tender when you touch it to about 6 months preggo looking.. I am NOT comfortable at all. I can't wear any of my pants....
