Re: Please tell me the nausea stops

The poor on-call doc called back right away which was really sweet considering it was christmas night. He said to take emetrol, and when I feel I can restart the pain pills take them with zantac which was kind of a surprise.

So my poor, long-suffering and surely now-a-saint husband begins his search for a pharmacy that is open on christmas. Even some of the 24-7 pharmacies were not open, but he finally found one that would actually answer the phone and headed out. He was only gone about 45 minutes but I thought I might die... just his presence had been keeping me sane.

The rest of the night was interspersed with doses of emetrol and tiny sips of water (you can't do that at the same time, they warn you). so every fifteen minutes it was emetrol, then emetrol, then water, then fall asleep for about an hour. Finally at three I fell asleep for about 3 and a half hours which is the longest stretch I've had since before my surgery.

Now I feel as if I were run over by a truck, and the idea of sipping either water or ginger ale is terrifying, so I'm slowly, slowly sipping some juice and hoping that the worst is over.

The pain i feel now is pretty bad but almost heaven after the last two days of nausea, so I'm thinking I just may not ever go back on pain medication. The hardest thing to deal with now is that all the vomiting irritated my throat, giving me a cough that feels like it's ripping stitches. And every part of me aches - from vomiting, from trying to get up, from trying to find a position that didn't make me want to die, from coughing, etc.

I want to be able to go back and be comforting to other women in the pre-op forum but all I want to do is scream at them not to do this. No matter how much pain I was in before this, I feel like I could have figured out a way to have a life like that. I'm having a hard time believing that this misery will ever end. Yes yes I know theoretically it will, but omg. I wish someone had told me that for two days I would be begging for death. I was completely unprepared and I just want to cry and cry.

I'm not being particularly stoic or strong, am I. Everybody suffers so who am I to feel so... horrible. I'm mad at myself for that on top of it all.

Re: Please tell me the nausea stops

I'm sorry it's been so bad. I threw up quite a bit in the hospital and know how painful it is. I couldn't imagine doing it constantly for days.

I hope the emitrol works for you. I think some people are just very sensitive to the drugs. Once your tummy settles I hope they can find a pain med that works for you.
