5 days post op - still have headache

Hi everyone - I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy on Tuesday 12/20/11. I went in expecting to have my ovaries removed but came out of surgery with my ovaries intact. We thought my endometriosis and adhesions had returned (I had a laparoscopy in March 2011 to remove more endo and a lot of adhesions were found) However, there was no endo present at all! But my uterus was tipped and pressing on my spine. (I have a lot of back pain due to a spinal condition as well - but getting this uterus off may help!) Anyway, my uterus was removed and it's possible that I had adenomyosis (I probably spelled that wrong). I kept my cervix and ovaries. I feel GREAT! Except for this headache that just won't quit. I've done caffeine (medication, coffee, tea) massage (I thought it was a knot in my back) and am drinking a lot of water. I'm wondering if it could be hormonal inspite of keeping my ovaries? It's bordering on the edge of a migraine and I used to get those when I was on birth control pills for my endo. Should I try my progresterone cream? I've used that in the past for my endo symptoms and to get and remain pregnant. Any advice is greatly accepted! Merry Christmas to you all!! Here's to a healthy new year.

Re: 5 days post op - still have headache

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and have had migraines since I was a teenager. My headaches began the night of surgery. In the hospital a nurse told me it's common to have headaches with the strong meds like morphine. When I began oral pain meds, the headaches continued. I saw my doc about a week and a half ago bc of an infection and asked him about headaches. He said headaches are likely rebound ones bc of pain meds. The headache would begin about the time I needed to take pain meds. As I have taken less pain meds, the headaches have tapered off even more. I still have to take Vicodin in the morning and evening bc my incision isn't healed and is still causing a lot of pain, but I only have a small headache every few days instead of two or three a day. I assume they will continue to improve. Hang in there!
