Help! Surgery Tomorrow!

Hi Gals!

So my surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at 11:15 am but I have to be at the castle at 9:15am... I am starting to really get anxious and scared and today is my last day of work! I am just curious on a few things... I have read about people needing a bowel prep before and my dr didnt say anything about that! Should I do one? Im starting to freak out like crazy! any and all advice is welcomed!

Re: Help! Surgery Tomorrow!

Only do it if your dr instructed you do to so...I am having DaVinci in a few hours, and I did not have a bowel prep. Good Luck tomorrow!

Re: Help! Surgery Tomorrow!

Mandy,

I had an abdominal hysterectomy and I didn't have to do anything before just a good bath or shower (what you prefer) You might shave at home if you wish.... if not you can do it at the hospital...That's why they ask you to be there 2 hours sooner... Take it easy...nothing is as bad as you read it here...Usually, those who suffer post more than those that don't. So, cheer up...it will go away in no time...I'm week 4 (tomorrow) after a 7in 19 stitches TAH, feeling good, and already have naughty thoughts for tonight...maybe...

So, good luck and see you soon.

Re: Help! Surgery Tomorrow!

I had an abdominal hysterectomy, and I didn't have to do any bowel prep and they didn't shave me at all. Some of the newer drapes are taped to your skin, so it traps all the germs, and the incision is actually made through plastic, so there's no need to shave, and no razor rash afterward, either.

Re: Help! Surgery Tomorrow!

Hi Mandy,
I didn't have to do any bowel prep either. Check with your doctor but both my hospital and doctor just had me wash with a special soap and that was it. Just eat light today. That will help. I feel your fears, I had a lot of anxiety before my surgery and I'm heading to my 2 week post-opt check-up today. I feel great and glad I did this. I wrote about my experience if you want to check it out under my name. It's titled, My Story and it's a good one!" Don't minimize your fears, just find as many things you like to do today and stay busy. That helped me. The people at the hospital are there for you so they will take care of you. The whole process was worse in my imagination compared to what I dealt with during the surgery and recovery. Good luck and I'll see you on the other side. It's great here!!!!!! Hugs!!!

Re: Help! Surgery Tomorrow!

I had the DaVinci and had to do a bowel prep so seems every doctor is different. I would call the doc and ask. Good luck to you!
