Confused. I dont have menopause symptoms but have been given HRT!

I had a hysterectomy in Nov 2011 as a result of grade 1 ovarian cancer. The surgeon took my one remaining ovary ( I had first one removed in Sept 2011 due to cyst with tissue component), tubes, omentum, uterus, cervix so I ahve no girly bits left inside me.
My gyn who I trust incredibly has prescribed me oestrogen only HRT "Progynova" or Oestradiol Valerate 2mg tablets. When he prescribed them I asked if there were any side effects or things I needed to be concerned about. He said "no". All he said was that if I chose not to take them I would need to have a bone density test every year or so. I got the impression he was not at all concerned so figured I shouldn't be concerned either but I am.
My concerns are that I don't have menopause symptoms but know that I am in surgical menopause since my op. Should I be taking the medication or not? I feel I shouldn't go back and ask my Gyn as he was as I said not at all worried and seemed to be so blase about it. Am I taking these because I am in menopause but my body just doesn't feel like it or am I thru menopause? My Oncology Nurse told me a few weeks back that surgical menopause is short and sharp and that I could well be thru it as I had lots of hot flushes, mood swings etc after my first op in September.

Oh dear..... its all so confusing. Any advice is appreciated.
I will just sit here and remain confused whilst I await your replies .......

Thanks Ladies.....

Lotsa Love

Re: Confused. I dont have menopause symptoms but have been given HRT!

I'm kinda in the same boat. I had everything taken december9 and I haven't had any symptoms either and was given hrt. I am 29 and know I'm suppose to be in surgical menopause the most I have felt is insomnia but I don't know if that is due to the surgery or menopause. I have heard that it could take up to months for your stored hormones to depleat. And that everyone is different and some women don't really have any symptoms. But my doctor wants me on hrt because it is found that younger women that goes through menopause can develops heart desease and osteoperosis faster because your body starts aging. But that is really all I know some of the side effects on hrt are just as bad though so I guess it really up too the individual which is better. I'm on a low dose of estogel. And I seem to be fine except nausea when I first put it on so I'm going to give it a few more weeks and ask my doctor what I should do next post appointment.
