Infected incision? Infected incision?

Infected incision?

I am really quite worried about one of my incisions. It is open and looks infected. I am almost 5 weeks post op (LSH davinci). There is redness around the incision and a white looking substance inside. The white substance does not appear to be pus though. I just got off of antibiotics for a sinus infection and really don't want to take more because I get yeast infections from them. Could the white substance just be visible fat? Or could it be pus or even dead tissue!? I have been cleaning it with peroxide and using neosporin. I alternate using bandaids and letting it air out. When it airs out, it does scab over, only to seep later in the day. Then the scab comes off and I start the process all over again! Any suggestions?

Re: Infected incision?

I would definitely get it checked out. I understand about not wanting to use antibiotics but the problem with infections-if that is what this is-is that they get worse. the infection spreads so you really need to check with the doc. Use probiotics when taking antibiotics if you have to be on them. Sending hugs.

Re: Infected incision?

If you suspect infection, please get it checked out. One of my incisions got infected and it spreads fast. They put me on Cephalexin for it. Mine wasn't seeping and it didn't have any pus. It got a red ring around it that more than tripled in size in a day. I didn't feel well either, but at first, I just attributed it to just having surgery. Sorry you are just getting over something else. I was too. I was on antibiotic for a UTI when the incision got infected. I hope it gets better for you.
