Recovery Concerns

Hello everyone! !!

I had a partial hysterectomy on Thursday Dec 29th, 2011. I'm home recovering and I'm concerned that I may be doing too much. Unfortunately I'm home alone so I have to get up to get something to eat or drink plus going to bathroom. Each time I get up I feel like my stomach is about to fall out.

I kinda miss being in the hospital. Once I'm done I get right back into bed. My lower back is hurting some also.

What should I do to make this a good recover without issues?

Re: Recovery Concerns

You should be up about 10-15 minutes each hour you are awake.... But at this point, it's fine to do what my GP calls "the hysterectomy shuffle". You aren't out to win any races!

Would it be possible to have a dear friend bring you a cooler with ice and some drinks and snacks in it? (Um, non-alcoholic at this point, of course. ) The friend could stop by each day for a while and replenish the ice.

This way, your walks will probably be to the bathroom or just a shuffle around the house. Keep your meds close at hand, too. I remember one incident where I actually slept for several hours and woke up with everything "worn off" -- oh, the agony! It took me 10 minutes just to stand up.

If your doc has recommended it, you might also try "staging" your meds. By this I mean staggering your doses every 3 hours or so, alternating a strong medicine with an OTC medicine. This way things are never completely worn off. But before you do this, please check with the doctor.

I wish you continued good healing. Don't do more than you fee like doing, but if you can't even be up for 10 minutes per hour (to stave off blood clots and get your stamina back), please call the for guidance.
