Re: Worried about waking up from surgery

I was really scared too. I haven't been put under since I was 5. Prior to surgery the anesthesiologist came to see me. I told him that I sometimes get nauseous from pain meds so he said he would give me something for that. In preop he gave me something for my nerves which made me sleep while I was waiting.

I woke up shortly before they wheeled me into the OR. Once in the OR they had me slide onto the table. Once I was properly positioned I remember the nurse putting those massagers on my legs and then I was out.

I woke up in recovery. I don't remember much and don't really remember being in pain, just really had a dry mouth. I told a nurse and she gave me some ice chips. I remember asking for a few more. Between that I slept. I guess I was in there an hour. Then they wheeled me up to my room.

I did get very sick for the next 24 hrs but because I had nothing but liquids in my stomach it wasn't that painful. They gave me stuff for it and eventually I felt better. I mostly slept while I was in the hospital. I went home after one night and most of the next day in the hospital.

Re: Worried about waking up from surgery

It's so completely normal to be worried about the anesthesia. I was too, and I made sure I told everyone that I was scared and to please take good care of me. The anesthesiologist gave me something to calm me down prior to going into the OR, and apparently it knocked me out, because the next thing I knew, I was waking up in recovery! I remember someone saying my name and telling me it was all done. I was so happy, I was singing and talking up a storm! They asked me about my pain level, I said a 7-8, and then I was given a TAP block, which I highly recommend! I had NO pain after that, for about 10 hrs. I remember my husband coming into recovery, and he told me later that he was trying so hard not to laugh at me, because I was talking so much and saying the funniest things!!

Try not to worry. I know it's easier said than done, but you will be alright. Best of luck to you!
