Body changes after surgery?

Is/did anyone else have body changes after their surgery? I'm trying to determine if it's the hysterectomy or something else going on (no complaints either way!). Before the TAH I couldn't lose weight, my hair was falling out to the point I would have to run sheets through the dryer before washing them to try and get some of the hair off, I had horrible acne, stray course black hairs on my face/chin. Over the past three weeks I've lost 15lbs, the hairs aren't growing as much, my acne has cleared up. Do our hormones do that much damage?

Re: Body changes after surgery?

I have been experiencing the same things. I hope the changes last! I do wonder if it is all due to hormones too.

Re: Body changes after surgery?

Did you ladies keep your ovaries? I've been experiencing extremely oily face & hair - I have both ovaries. Thanks!

Re: Body changes after surgery?

lawgsa did you have polycystic ovarian syndrome? cause at lot of what you described is a symptom of pcos...difficult to lose weight, increase hair growth on face and other parts of body, infertility, periods sporatic. I know as I had pcos...until they removed my last ovary and family dr said if both are gone then it will go as well...so hoping the symptoms will decrease for me as well. I have noticed that the hair growth on my face and chin is less...the hair loss i can not account for, nor the acne but i am with you if it is the reason I would love to start losing casue i could not lose weight for many years...

Re: Body changes after surgery?

I had acne before my tag and every month before I would be blessed with aunt flows presence, I would break out so bad. After having my surgery and the overlies removed...ta da!! Acne is cleared up...and have lost some weight to....I wonder if it will stop my hair from turning gray!!! LOL (hey a girl has a right to dream). Its a rough road right now...but feel this was my best decision.

Re: Body changes after surgery?

totalhysta - yes I have PCOS which I thought might be the reason for all the changes since I had the ovaries out too. From what I've found online though, everyone says it won't make a difference. It's basically the same thing that happened once I started taking birth control. I had the opposite of all the side effects everyone else experienced.

Re: Body changes after surgery?

A hyst/BSO is not a cure for PCOS, but it can change your hormone balance somewhat, causing you to experience different symptoms, or the same symptoms to different degrees.
