Dec 29

Had a nearly total Robotic Lap (all but R ovary) Dec 29.
Day 1...slept a lot
Day 2...home and then rested in bed. Pain was not horrid, took 2 (total) Vicodin. Included 2 Colace to. "Keep moving" without too much pain.
Day 3...Was able to get up more with relative Wade. Only major complaint was The gas pain.
Day 4...ditto
Day 5...yesterday ...i was more noticeably fatigued. Also lower abdominal pain increased. Appetite was good. Spent much of the day in my recliner, rather than lying in bed.
Day woke up w much more pain in lower abdomen, but esp in my lower R back, which radiates to the front. Also am having much more vaginal pain probably because I'm sitting in my recliner. Am back on the Vicodin tonight because I'm miserable.
Should the pain be worse? If I'm doing sometwrong I'd like advice on how to better recuperate.

Thx! !!

Re: Dec 29

HispitAnn -

Sometimes the back pain can come from how you are sitting. You've really just begun your recovery journey.

Initial recovery takes 2/4 to 6/8 weeks and full recovery can take 6 to 12 months. It's good you took your pain meds, you don't want to come off of those too early because your body will take resources from healing and try to deal with the pain. So stay ahead of the pain.

You can check out the Hysterectomy Checkpoints for weeks 1 & 2 (the checkpoints are in the menu bar - top left) that will give you some idea of what you should be doing. Generally you should be walking a bit, drinking plenty of fluids and sleeping.

Also look for your the Recovery Progress thread at the top of the Post-Op forum for your week of surgery. It is a great comfort to trade recovery stories with ladies who had surgery the same time as you. You will find all kinds of support. Make sure you get the right week since we have one for every week of the year.
