Pre-op went well

Pre-op was yesterday and it went well. A friend of mine came over in the AM and ran around with me on all my errands and to doctor appointments.
At the pre-op for those of you that haven't been yet The nurse gave me a pre-op folder from the hospital with tons of info inside as well as a "prescription" for an EKG at the hospital. I did have to get undressed and the doc listened to my heart and lungs. She told me all the risks involved in the surgery. I asked about giving blood before and she said in all her years of preforming hysts she only had to do one blood transfusion and she knew ahead of time because of the patients condition. She showed me where the incision would be. I asked about the catheter and yes I will have one cuz of the Burch procedure on bladder and it will come out my abdomin. There is a 90% chance of still having it when I come home. Asked about pathology being done on organs- yes. I signed consent forms and gave permission for removal of ovaries if there was abnormalities though I prefer to keep. I asked for one pill to relax me the night before and she prescribed one. It came to 34 cents !!! The nurse came in and took two vials of blood. and I was off to Hospital for EKG which took longer to hook up that the test itself!! Anyway sorry for long post but thought inquiring minds would want to know 8)

Thank You!!!

I was wondering what all was going to happen at the pre-op!
The pill to relax the night before is a wonderful idea!!!
Will put that on my have to haves list!
I have to relax now cause I have the jitters for some reason, dont think this is going to go like the gall bladder op.

Pre-op went well

I am scheduled for my Pre-Op at the dr. office the day before surgery. It is at 10:30 AM and the surgery is the next day at 1:45 PM. Doesn't that seem to be cutting it close? I think the nurse said I have to be at the hospital at 1:30 PM on the Pre-Op day for something. I guess that will be the EKG and stuff.

I too was comparing it to my gall bladder removal. I don't think it will be the same. I only missed 10 days of work for that. Besides I think there is a lot of other "stuff" to be stitched back together for the hyst than there was for the gall bladder.

I just hope I don't get as nautious afterwards as I did with the gall bladder!

Pre-op went well

I'm glad all went well for you. I can't believe you ladies all have your dates and times for pre-admission testing and castle visit. I am a nervous wreck with 9 days to go. The doctors office said the hospital will call me and let me know when to be there for my pre-admission testing and that I will get a phone call from the hospital after 5:00 p.m. the evening before my surgery to let me know what time to be there!!!!! I know my surgery is on the 8th, but I have no idea of anything else that is going on. Talk about leaving you in suspense. The waiting is killing me.

Pre-op went well

Hi Stylib!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with pre-op! It really helps us to know what we might expect. It appears that doctors and hospitals handle this visit in many different ways, but usually all of the same tests are done! All the best to you in your upcoming surgery!

Pre-op went well

Just wanted to say to you LIWs that I hope you have uneventful surgeries and speedy recoveries. Let us hear from you as soon as you feel up to it when you get home & join us in the chat room. Getting something to aid sleep the night before sounds like a good idea to me. I didn't have anything and had a hard time getting to sleep that night & didn't think to ask for something. My pre-op appt was 2 days before my surgery and no EKG was ordered (varies with dr or patient's history), but everything else sounds about the same as my visit. Hospitals and doctors have to have you sign consents to everything that could go wrong just in case, but don't let it worry you. And yes, we have to get catherized. The surgery takes at least 1 1/2 hours and you wouldn't want to worry that you wet the table. Plus, it's nice not having to get up at first to go to the bathroom. In most cases, the cath is removed the day of or day after unless you're having some other bladder work done. I know a million thoughts were going through my mind pre-op. Just try & relax and think about how much better you're going to feel after you recover.

pill to relax

I got the idea to ask for the pill night before from this site!!! I think it was in one of the sister's sharing their story. I have had a few other surgeries and usually I can't sleep before and throw up in the morning before going in so when I read about that I said yahoo- I'm going to ask!!! "doctor called it a " I don't care pill". Sounds good to me after being tied up in knots all this time waiting!!! I am so glad this site is here and soooo thankful for all you "hystersisters" . I pray God will give us peace- I need it!!!
