Yesterday morning was my surgery and it as a tad rough. I had a reaction to the meds and had some respiratory issues. There's nothing like waking up to people hovering over you and watching you breathe. Apparently I was showing signs of sleep apnea and quit breathing for 32 seconds. All I knew is that I was exhausted!!!
My surgery was at 8:30 and 5:30 I was feeling a lot better and breathing normal. They kept me overnight cause of the respiratory issues and cause I hadn't urinated yet. After my experience with the cathetor (not pleasant, but not as bad as I thought) I was ready for some soup and toast. After not eating for two days I was getting pretty hungry.
I've been up and walking around quite a bit. Each time gets easier and I highly recommend it. Here is a list of some helpful tips:
Time your walks right after your pain meds. This will help with the pain and you will get it done before you get sleepy. It also helps with the gas.
Ask to use your own undies. Way more comfortable and buy the biggest grammie ones you can find. Comfort outways the cuteness.
Get ear plugs. Wether at home or in the hospital they will help you rest.
Move your feet. Point up and then relax. Helps to not form clots.
Also take deep breathes, hold for 5 seconds and exhale. Helps to not get pneumonia.
If you stay in the hospital, get to know your nurses names. Pass on good repors to the appropriate people. They do a lot!
Buy chapstick, stool softeners, throat lozenges, and pads. You will need them.
Wear jammies and slippers to the hospital! Again comfort over cuteness!
Rest! Rest! Rest! Have a good support system!
Remember that you are not alone! We are all in this with you!

Good luck to all of you and I wish you all a speedy recovery!
