Question - Can a difficult tubal ligation cause ovaries to stop working? Can a difficult tubal ligation cause ovaries to stop working?

I'm guessing this is where to post this...

Howdy all,

I had a D&C & tubal ligation done December 7 under general anesthesia. D&C was the typical vaginal D&C, and the tubal was done laproscopically. Once in there for the tubal, the surgeon encountered stage IV endometriosis and says she had a heck of a time finding my tubes in all the fused together mess to do anything with them. I have since scheduled a TAH:BSO for Jan 17.

I have noticed since the tubal, and getting more frequent as time goes on, that sometimes physical exertion will send me into what I can only describe as a hot flash. I start burning up, sweating profusely, heart pounding, flushed... to the point that an ice cold shower sounds like a good idea. Yesterday was horrible. Today, eh, not so bad. I've also noticed that I am more apt to start tearing up over the goofiest stuff.

Is it possible that the surgery in Dec has my ovaries "sleeping"? I know that can happen if the ovaries are left after a hysterectomy, but can it happen from a difficult tubal, too?

I know there is not much I can do about it right now, especially since the girls are departing in the next surgery anyway, but I'm curious about whether or not I might be getting a head start on the early hormonal stuff.

yes. I read in Dr. Elizabeth Vliet's book "Screaming to be heard" that a tubal ligation or a hysterectomy can cause your ovaries to stop working.

Lori,

Your ovaries could be sleeping from the surgery. Hot flashes can also be caused by fluctuations in your levels.

Re: Can a difficult tubal ligation cause ovaries to stop working?

Thank you, Ann & Kim. :-)

Test are showing that my hormone levels are starting to decline, so that very well could be the culprit. I just know things have been different the last several months and the last few weeks in particular, since the tubal was done.

I discovered this morning that if my ovaries have been asleep, they've decided to wake up in time to trigger one more blankity-blank-blank period before surgery. Oh well... endure & carry on. This is the last one I'll ever have. Can't say I'm going to miss this pain all that much.
