Finally scheduled my surgery

After being in pain for years, and having the official diagnosis last year, I've been putting off scheduling my surgery. Granted, I did have some obstacles standing in my way. First off, I've been battling thyroid cancer for 2 1/2 years, and the same month that I had my diagnostic laproscopy last year, I found out that my cancer had returned. So, I had to receive treatment for that, and as of right now things are looking good for me.

My main issue, however, was not the was my emotional state. Being only 30 years old, finding out that I couldn't give my son a brother or sister was devastating to me. It took a lot of soul searching (and lots of pain) for me to be comfortable enough to make this decision.

Because my body still isn't fully adjusted to being without a thyroid, I'm concerned about the effect that this surgery is going to have on me. I'm having a TAH with Oophorectomy on Feb. 15. I don't have the option to save my ovaries...everything inside is "glued" together. I've heard both good and bad things about hormone replacement, but I'm still unsure about which route I am going to take.

This is going to be my 5th surgery in 6 years, and each one has been very different from the next. Any hints, tips, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Finally scheduled my surgery

You have a lot to be dealing with at the moment, and I don't have a direct link to what you are going through, but wish you all the best.
I have had a hysterectomy, after years of heavy periods due to fibroids, and am happy that I have done so.

I have been suffering hot flushes and night sweats for years, hoping to finally finish the menopause, and have been resisting taking HRT till now.
The night sweats have got worse, although drinking Soya milk sems to be helping.

Not everyone needs to take HRT, so it is good to talk to others, and your Doc about your own circumstances.
I am sure other sisters will offer you some sound advice too.
This is a great forum to get help
