Re: surgery wed and im freakin!

*hugs you gently* It all sounds pretty normal to me. I had been scheduled for a TAH on Dec 26th that got canceled. No new date has been set as of yet and still I feel all the things you talk about. I went grocery shopping yesterday and all I could think the whole time is can I cook this into something that freezes well? Is there enough room in my freezer? Will the family eat it? I don't think I have had more than an hour since Dec 16th (when I was told I would need a TAH) where surgery/recovery hasn't been on my mind. I don't sleep any more, I hardly eat. I'm driving myself round the bend. Hang in there and I will send you thoughts of health and healing. See you on the other side!

Re: surgery wed and im freakin!

The freaking out is totally normal. No matter what you do the house will most likely look terrible by the time you can manage your housework again. But o well. I'm getting really good at ignoring things I can't do. For example, I feel good enough to dust and wipe counters but don't do floors. So the counters and shelves are reasonably clean but the floors are terrible. I tried sweeping the laundry room the other day and it seems to have gone ok so now I'll be able to sweep but not mop or vac so the floors still won't look good.

Do what you can to prep as far as cleaning, food and stuff. I would say the only crucial stuff is to make sure you have your recovery room set up. Everything else, someone else can do or you can live without. DH took care of cooking and shopping for the first week or two. As I felt better I would throw some chicken to bake in the oven or something simple.

Realize, the waiting is almost always worse than the reality. Most women recover just fine with no real complications. We're just sore and slow and tired but get a little better all the time.

Re: surgery wed and im freakin!

Ah - I remember well.

Whether you get it all done or not, the day comes and I can tell you it all works out in the end. Make friends with your dust bunnies and call pizza delivery. Spouses/partners can cook and kids can be supervised to do the work. They may not like it, but then again, who likes surgery. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

And then, before you know it, the doctor releases you from all restrictions and everything returns to 'normal'.
