Is this hormones? Is this hormones?

Is this hormones?

For months before my LAVH/BSO, I noticed I was having trouble thinking clearly and was having trouble concentrating when reading as well as retaining what I had just read. Now, 11 weeks after surgery, it seems to be getting worse. It's not really constant just times when it isn't too bad and others when it is worse. I was hyperthyroid and then went super hypothyroid but supposedly that is now under control with meds. I am taking HRT and found out Friday that my estrogen levels are extremely low so my dose was just upped. Yesterday I felt awful. Part of that was probably because of the new higher dose of HRT. I was very emotional, felt awful and my head just felt sort of foggy. I have my to-do lists but I read them and then forget what I have done or what I need to do so I find myself reading them over and over again. Friday I screwed up and paid two credit card bills late (15 minutes past the deadline!) so now I am stressed even more because I am afraid they are going to raise the interest rates. ANyone else go through this? Am I getting senile at 44?

Re: Is this hormones?

You are not getting senile at 44, I promise. They are all the signs of menopause. I was awful until they found the right balance of HRT for me. Give the increased dosage some time and see if that helps your symptoms. If it's been awhile since your last thyroid test I would also advise you have that done as well to be sure it's still under control.

Good luck,
Tracy

Re: Is this hormones?

Wildcatchick -

ME TOO! I thought it was the anemia, since that can cause foggy brain and such, but since my hyster, my iron levels are in the normal range and I still can't concentrate, have foggy brain and bad memory. I've got so much work to do (so why am I here?) and can't seem to focus on anything long enough to get it done. Feel like I've got ADD.

Before surgery, my hormone levels were fine, but I'm wondering if my ovaries are still asleep or if, at 47, menopause has finally kicked in. I'm driving myself crazy and my husband vacillates between amused and annoyed. :P

Me too! I thought this dose of HRT was fine for me but I am forgetting things, dropping things and cannot pull words out of my brain!

Ok, that is just funny! I have been saying things like "well I know it starts with a C but I can't pull the word out of my brain". My co-workers think I am funny.

Re: Is this hormones?

Welcome to the club!
I think it may be menopause because I have been getting dotty for a while. My kids say I am getting like my Mother, who at 81 is "As mad as a Badger!" according to them.

I find I forget what I am saying mid sentence. I couldn't find the HOME key on my computer yesterday. My spelling is random, and I have to keep double checking.

My son bought me some brain boosting gadgets for Christmas. I can cope with electronic Hangman now but the mathematical one defeats me.
2 + 27 =
By the time I have worked out what I am being asked to work out - the time is up!
As for the other games on the maching like sequencing - I can't work out at all what I am supposed to do.

I love reading, and had a pile ready. I have not even finished my 2nd book

Re: Is this hormones?

I could not think after my hysterectomy either. I went through menopause a few years back and had some trouble but after the hysterectomy I couldn't think, spell or read! I am glad to say I woke up today without the foggy brain but I have no fear that fogginess will be back tomorrow!
