Thank you so much for posting this question! I'm scheduled for my hysterectomy on 2/13, Da Vinci, due to fibroids and heavy periods. My doc is leaving my ovaries, but he wants to take the cervix. I asked why and he said there was no evidence that leaving it makes any difference. But like many ladies have said here, if it's healthy, why take it? My last pap was fine, just a few atypical cells, but no HPV, so no worries. My biggest fear is taking the cervix, and then having nerve damage, or possibly prolapse later. I'm going to stay tuned to this thread to see if any other ladies weigh in - I've got a few weeks before I have to make my final decision whether or not to let the cervix go. Thanks again, all!

Hi, I had surgery last year and I decided to keep my cervix. Like you no abnormal paps and I figured since I wasnt having problems with that to keep it. I had my uterus removed due to very heavy periods and the lining of the uterus was very thick even on medication so that is why I chose to have a hysterectomy. My dr cauterized my cervix very well and I have not had one drop of blood since the surgery!! Yeah!!! I am very happy with my decision and had a very simple recovery. I hope the same for you, good luck with your surgery and your decision. Take care.

I kept my cervix, because I was told it would prevent prolapse. However, from what I've learned after surgery this should not really be a problem. I did not know about mini-periods before the surgery. I am happier than I've been in years, but I still wonder if I did the right thing because of the mini-periods I'm getting. I wouldn't have minded removing another useless body part for better results!

It wasn't an option for me. My prolapse was just entering stage 3 so the cervix had to go. I'm only 10 days post op so I can't be of too much help yet unfortunately as to how the cuff etc works out...but I certainly think we should trust that inner voice when it has such a strong opinion. Go with your gut so they say!
Best of luck...but you dont need it you will be fine. The waiting truly is the hardest part.

Well, it was my cervix that sounded the 'alarm'.
with a polyp and a pre C biopsy.
losing it and everything else, was crucial to prevent the C word from spreading.
I'm 55 had one child, am no longer married,
I don't regret my operation.
Haven't had my 6-8 week check up yet.
Am at week 4 post op.
feeling better with each day.
Be strong.
ASk for help from family or friends, if you need to.
