NERVOUS---Having second thoughts...

I'm scheduled for a LSH on Feb 16th due to endometriosis, possible adenomyosis and severe cramping. However, as the date grows near I'm starting to feel as though I could live with the pain...
I'm nervous. I did not have a second opinion because the reason for the LSH is basically a quality of life issue. I'm tired of the pain, the blood and the spotting all month long.
My Dr. is going to try to do it laparoscopically but if there's too much scar tissue he may have to make an incision...
I'm so worried about everything. If there's any advice out there, I'd appreciate it

Re: NERVOUS---Having second thoughts...

I don't have much advice, but want to offer support! My TLH is next Friday for the same reasons. I have had multiple laps to remove endo..I also had a uterine suspension and pre-sacral neurectomy. I gave birth to my first (and only) son 9/23/11 and have not stopped bleeding yet. We decided the hyster is best for me right now due to the previous issues and a VERY traumatic birth. I am ready to be on the road to recovery.

I am a RN and my previous job was to take care of the post-op hysters. Many did SO well. Rarely did I have a woman who had a lot of problems afterwards. Always stay on top of your pain (do not be afraid to take pain medication) and make sure you walk. After your surgery, I would be glad to continue talking also

Re: NERVOUS---Having second thoughts...

Wow! My first daughter, I have three, was born on 9/23/03!
Thank you for the support and good luck to you.
I'm mostly afraid of being Dr. said that if there's too much scar tissue he might not be able to do the procedure laparoscopically.
Thanks again for your support and good luck

Re: NERVOUS---Having second thoughts...

I also signed my consent as possible abdominal hyster (although I think everyone needs too). We have the same concerns bc my poor belly has taken a brutal beating with a lot of surgeries!

9/23 must be a wonderful day! My peanut is my miracle baby, as I am sure yours are also

Re: NERVOUS---Having second thoughts...

I had LAVH on 1/3. I'm still tired and having a little pain when I overdo it, but it's not as bad as the pain I was having with every period for so many years. And this pain will go away. Hurray! Try not to stress about it. Everyone I've talked to that has had a hysterectomy has been happier afterwards.

Re: NERVOUS---Having second thoughts...

Second thoughts are totally normal... its hard to turn off the "what ifs".

Ask yourself, do you really want to be this way for the next 20 years, or are you willing to spend the next weeks recovering from a surgery that will imporve your quality of life .. forever!

Re: NERVOUS---Having second thoughts...

I had an LSH 6 weeks ago and I agree that second thoughts are normal. I was scared and even cried the whole way into the OR. I didn't know if they would have to do the hysterectomy or not so there were a lot of unknowns going into surgery. My surgeon was an endometriosis specialist so I really trusted him and his judgement and I was suffering from constant, severe pain daily so something had to be done.

To be honest, I'm really glad I went through with it. I don't have children so I'm dealing with some feelings of loss but I feel so much better overall. Don't get me wrong, I'm not completely pain free yet but I'm in SO much less pain than I was and the pain I have now is just healing from the surgery. I also didn't realize how much my uterus was bothering me. I feel like the big bowling ball in my belly is gone. Good luck to you and best wishes!
