Re: Belly belt???

I had a TAH. After surgery I was not given one and support panties were not enough. Mind you, I have a lot of belly so I decided the support binder was a good idea and ordered it. I have had issues with my incision and use it any time I am out and, walking.

Re: Belly belt???

I ordered mine from the Hystersisters store late Friday night last week - more like Saturday morning - I had it in my mail box on Wednesday of this week. I tried it on as soon as I opened it and didn't want to take it off. It felt pretty doggone good on a sore back and an achy belly.

You might find one locally at a pharmacy that specializes in home health care equipment if you want it quicker.

Re: Belly belt???

The hospital that I was in provided me with a binder and insisted that I wear it when I was walking the halls.

Good luck with you upcoming surgery!

Re: Belly belt???

It sounds like you need to call the hospital to find out about whether or not they provide the belly belt. If haven't already gone in for your pre-op stuff, that would be a good question to ask.

Re: Belly belt???

Odds are that the hospitals have them available, just ask. However, I want to emphasize that I needed a larger one than they had available. The one they gave me was so uncomfortable that I gave up on it ten minutes after the nurse wrestled it onto me.

The one I ordered here is longer, so it fits without being too tight. Also, the HysterSisters binder is NARROWER - which is a very good thing. It does not irritate my incision, dig into my rib cage, or fold over around the top of my thighs. I am not sure who they designed the standard hospital binder for, but it clearly wasn't me!

Because of my bad hospital experience, I was not in a hurry to use any binder. But now, as I enter my 5th week, I rely on the binder, especially whenever I am out of the house. Swelly belly may be here for several months and I feel much better prepared when I can reach for my binder.

ps... light support panties are nice, too, especially if you want support overnight but don't want to use the binder 24/7. Every day I try to be responsive to how my belly feels and not overdo the artificial support; I am looking forward to my body eventually being able to take care of itself so I mix it up with these support devices depending on how I feel.

It's great to keep your options open, and a binder is a real help!

Re: Belly belt???

I asked my doctor about the belly binder and she said that if you are short-waisted and have a TAH do not use it because it irritates your incision and sits too high on your ribs. Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Re: Belly belt???

I didn't get on after my surgery, and never used one till a few days ago (I am 5 weeks post op today). It's heaven on my sore body...I wish I had it weeks ago. My recovery was going good then a little over a week ago I could barely move I was in so much pain. Felt like I had torn muscles. I have been wearing mine during the day, today is day 3 and it's made a huge difference.

*I also had abdominal surgery, but I don't know how the binder feels on a new insision.
