Sooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!

I am 6 weeks post op and having the worst hot flashes! I thought I was done with menopause before the hyster. Guess not this part.
On my bed I have a sheet and 2 different weight blankets for depending on how I feel. For the last 3 nights I have used none of them. Between the unused blankets and 5 different pillows I need for different levels of support there is no room for my DH. Oh well honey it's the couch for you. No hanky panky anyway Plus i am just to hot to have another body in bed.
By the way it is the middle of winter here in mi. Thank god I didn't have surgery in the summer!

Re: Sooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!

I feel your pain. I kept my ovaries but the are rebelling. Today, we went to the drugstore and in that short time in the store I pulled off my jacket and I sweated through my shirt. I walked outside into the 20 degree night and it felt great. Then of course hours later I had every blanket and I could muster on the couch with me.

Re: Sooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!

Yep - I wake up a few times a night, burning up, parched throat. It passes in a few minutes, but now, in week 5, I'm getting it on and off during the day, too. So far, no actual sweating, but we'll see how it evolves...

Re: Sooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!

Hi Ladies, I just had my one year hysterversary yesterday (1/11/12) and I am not on HRT. I have had hot flashes since about the 2nd week after my surgery. It interrupted my sleep for about a month or two but I put a chair by my bed and a fan on it to blow directly on me when the heat wave began. That really helps a lot, along with the Chillow Pillow in hot weather. I also learned to dress in layers for peeling off and putting back on as needed. I work in an office and have a little personal fan on my desk and a little area heater on the floor which I use alternately. Except for these hot flashes, which are now manageable, (I'm really dreading summer though) I feel perfectly fine and very grateful. Looking back it seems like forever ago instead of just one year. Best wishes to you all and lots of HUGS

Re: Sooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!

I feel your pain. I'm about 10 weeks out now, but the doctor doesn't want to do HRT just yet since the hormones were what was my big problem. I always used to run a little cold (I could wear sweaters in July), but now? Whoa boy. I wore a sweater to work last week thinking "It's 17 degrees out. I should be ok." Nope. Big mistake. The doctor said I should cut back on caffeine at my check up last week. It's supposed to help a little since caffeine expands the blood vessels. I'm doing so-so on not cheating and having coffee anyway. But my herbal tea days don't seem to be any better as far as not having hot flashes either.

Re: Sooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!

I timed my last flash and it lasted exactly 2 minutes... but then, that was only half an hour ago and here comes another one - wheeee!

Anyway, my buddy who went through menopause last year recommends a sip of soy milk. She said she didn't even need a whole glass, something about the soy causing an estrogen-like effect that would drive away the hot flash.

Well, I am heading to Trader Joe's tomorrow am, and intend to give it a try.... Cheers!

Re: Sooooooooo hot!!!!!!!!

I can't say soy milk helps me as I am lactose intolerant so it's what I drink. But I will have to pay attention to see if the days I drunk it I feel any different.
