Me again, but I have a ?

I was talking to the nurse today about pain management and the response was that I can not have anything stronger than what I have now because post op, they want to prescribe narcotics but if I take some now, they won't be as effective. Cool. I get that, but then she goes on and is reading my u/s report out loud and says:

...endometrial lining 20mm and uterine cysts were found...

umm, my doctor never told me that part. I looked it up and 20mm is about how big the lining should be for a 9 months pregnant person. And cysts? Are those fibroids? She hears the shock in my voice and says "Oh the cysts, those are normal. They come and they go in everyone"..

Wait. Huh? I've never heard of cysts in the uterus before besides fibroid cysts.

Anyone have this? Also, if it is true that my uterus is full to bursting and I have cysts down there, wouldn't that be enough reason to believe that I have some pretty bad pain going on? I have my biopsy on the 25th and the surgical consult the 27th, but in the mean time.. it hurts! So what is a uterine cyst and are they in fact "normal"?

Aviano - it certainly sounds like you need to talk with your doctor to get some clarity. Uterine cysts are usually called fibroids, but I don't understand the comment that "they come and go". As for the thickness of your endometrial lining, it does sound very thick but it's important that you talk with your doctor because everyone's anatomy/size is abit different. Your doctor will be most familiar with what is "normal" for you. Please do call your doctor and make sure it is explained well to you, it's your body and it is important that they answer all of your questions....particularly if it comes time to make a decision about surgery!

Good for you for pressing for answers! It can be hard work, particularly when we aren't feeling our best and strongest, but you must be your own best advocate! Sometimes it helps to take someone with you to an appointment, as a second set of ears or even just to take notes while you are asking questions. I did this, and was sure glad I did, I was abit overwhelmed with all the information and terminology! Another option is to ask your doctor to write it down for you.

Wishing you the best - let us know what you find out!
