To anyone who was offended, I'm sorry you felt offended. Obviously this is a support site. My intent was to say that, although you'll see lots of scary stories here about problems and complications, what you may NOT see if stories of those who have simply gone on successfully to LIVE and they may not be posting their success stories because they're ...well...they're just out there living.

My surgery was successful, thus far and I thank those who wished me well. I think when we read people's posts, we sometimes have to take ourselves out of the equation and put ourselves in the OP's shoes to see where she may be coming from. As I said in my original post, I learned many things here before going into my surgery. Things whichhad not been explained to be by my own surgeon. In no way was I denigrating this site. I was simply asking those who were scared to look FORWARD and to not be deterred by the stories here which may terrify them.
I agree, thank you. There needs to be a dedicated "Encouragement" section on this site; potentially the webmaster's responsibility. Otherwise you have to sift and sort to find the good news, while it is effortless to search for side effects. Its all here but it could be organized a little more so that persons looking for optimism could find it with ease (not having to read and read and read).

Yes, I agree w/ Hunteli1 that you need to consider what type of surgery others are having for accurate comparison. Lap vs. abd makes a big difference on recovery. Also, for me, I'm glad I read all experiences, even if a little frightening, so I could be more prepared. I wish I'd read something about the gas pains prior to my surgery last week. I thought I was having a heart attack because the pain was in my shoulder and my face was numb. Of course, it was the next morning that the doctors tell me about the gas pain referring to the shoulder being a common experience. So, yes, it can be a bit scary knowing all this before, but hopefully if you have some of these experiences after, you will feel normal & know you have a place for support.
