14 wks, finally saw a piece of stitch

When I saw the GYN at 12 weeks, he said my stitches were "starting to dissolve" and to wait 2 more weeks before FINALLY resuming relations with hubby, just to be on the safe side. We made it 1 more week and decided 13 weeks were enough!

Today, at exactly 14 weeks post-op, I saw my first green piece of stitch. Guess they still aren't completely gone? On the bright side, no pain or discomfort during sex, so I'm sure we're "safe".

I know I'm not the slowest healer out there, but this is rather ridiculous, when the type of stitches my GYN uses are usually dissolved between 6-8 weeks. The stitches under my incision on my breast are gone now, at 4 weeks post-op, also twice as long as the surgeon predicted.

Re: 14 wks, finally saw a piece of stitch

I'm just a week and a bit ahead of you, and I am a Very Slow Healer ('Slow Healers Unite', is what I started saying, so when people asked why I wasn't 100% yet, I'd just reply, 'SHU.')

Saw my first stitch just after 7 weeks post-op, and thought that must surely be the tail-end of them, but I was passing them up until week 14 too. I saw my specialist yesterday, and was declared 'structurally sound', with one rogue stitch that she removed as it sort of wandered where it shouldn't have and wouldn't leave on its own. She said on the plus side, the cuff was good and fully closed up now. Mine are all gone, but it did take me over 15 weeks, if you count the rogue one. So no, you're not the slowest!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I know I'm not alone. I just was surprised. Thought I just missed seeing the threads, but this was obviously what others have described. Hope I don't see more weeks down the road...that this will be the first and LAST!
