Monday is my liquid diet day (day before surgery) and I love milk and forgot to ask the surgeon if it was ok to drink it? anyone? i know its a stupid question but, i am hoping its ok because milk will help curtail my hunger.

Re: Liquid Diet-Monday Stupid question

It depends on the type of liqid diet. I think the DR's put us on liquid diets to assist in post op BM's-so they won't be as difficult on our systems. I would think milk is OK, but I would check to be sure. Do your pre-op instructions say anthing regarding types of liquids? Some liquid diets include jello. While jello is not on the top of most peoples list of foods, psychologically it helps. Good Luck.

Re: Liquid Diet-Monday Stupid question

Call your Dr and clarify. That's the only way you'll know for sure.

Re: Liquid Diet-Monday Stupid question

On a liquid diet milk is okay, on a clear liquid diet milk is not okay. I'd call your Dr to see which liquid diet it is.

Re: Liquid Diet-Monday Stupid question

I was on clear liquid before hand so milk was a no no for me.

Re: Liquid Diet-Monday Stupid question

As far as I know, liquid diet is in fact clear liquid diet (soup, jello, apple juice) and dairy is a not allowed. But I had no such diet before surgery (I was all clear for normal food) so... I don't think is that important. But only your doctor will tell for sure. Good luck !

Re: Liquid Diet-Monday Stupid question

I just had my surgery on Thursday (jan 12) and it was no milk for me the day before, just clear liquids. If your doing the bowel prep with mag.'s my tip after I chugged it all down I chewed a piece of gum to get the taste out of my mouth worked fantastic! Best of luck! Your gonna do great!!

Re: Liquid Diet-Monday Stupid question

I would tend to avoid milk. When I was post-op and the hospital put me on liquid for the first 48 hours: coffee/tea, juice, broth and jello only.

Don't worry too much though - DH reminded me this procedure is about the uterus, not the digestive system. If I had been scheduled for a colonoscopy there would be much more emphasis on bowel prep.

Before surgery, I took the mag citrate as instructed, but my bowel prep wasn't really as 'complete' as I'd hoped. I showed up for the surgery feeling like I had miscalculated and afraid it would cause a problem. Doctor was not concerned and everything proceded smoothly.

Good luck!

Re: Liquid Diet-Monday Stupid question

Please don't drink milk until you call your doctor. If you are on a "clear" liquid diet and drink milk, your surgery will more than likely be postponed.

Re: Liquid Diet-Monday Stupid question

I would ask the doc about milk. Mine said milk was fine until about 4 pm the day before. Not a lot of milk though. My surgery was really early and I also had to do a bowel prep which might be why he approved milk. Do ask your doc though. Definitely don't want a postponement.
