Nerves or ..

Hi,
My LSH is 2-16.
I had a rough 6 weeks. Ended up in the ER needing 3 bags of blood. Diagnosed with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding and Anemia.
Tried a bunch of meds and hormones and bleeding did not stop.
Edometrial biopsy was normal. Doc said my uterus responded to the hormones but did not stop the bleeding and bleeding may recur or continue. Last med did slow down/stop the bleeding but doc said it's not for long term use.
(D&C was done day of ER but bleeding continued).
So..LSH is in order.
After all this, why do I feel like I just want to put it off..
Thank you.

Re: Nerves or ..

It's very tempting to put the surgery off. Several women who post here have stated they put off their surgery for sometimes years. I think because it's such a hard decision to make. Hard to accept that you need it done. And it brings up all kinds of emotions and fears in us as women. And there are also lots of unknowns with the surgery and no guarantees and that makes it scary. Do your research, get a second opinion and discuss with those close to you. I hope you come to peace with your decision. Remember we are here for you.

Re: Nerves or ..

I think I understand from your post that you feel the doctor put you off instead of doing the surgery right away. I can understand if you go through so much, and then they say lets do surgery in a month. It might be a bit frustrating.

Sugarandspice has a good point to get a second opinion on the matter. You want to make the right decision for you and your health.

Good luck to you. We are are here to support you.

Re: Nerves or ..

Actually, I am so glad doc did not have to end up doing an emergency hyst. I don't think I could have handled that.
My doc is great and I trust him totally. He tried scheduling me in this week but was not able to as the BOARD had to approve it.
I can understand that.
I guess I'm just nervous for now. Every waking moment, I'm on the net doing my own research. Some info can be really scary.
I should just let it be til I meet up with him on the 6th for my pre-op.
Thank you guys for listening.

Re: Nerves or ..

So much scary medical information on the Internet. After readin some horror stories, I limited my searches to this site. I found that things here were portrayed in a less scary manner but still remained realistic.

Re: Nerves or ..

Sounds like you have had a pretty rough time. Just remember that you have been through alot and its very common to feel unsure about things, especially since you probably are not at all feeling 100%. And all that bleeding is very draining on your physical well being too. Hormones can make a person have a wide range of emotions as well. I just wanted you to know that after my surgery I felt so much better even a week after was better than the way I felt before so that is my experience. My recovery was very smooth and I am very glad with my deicision. I think alot of times we are apprehensive because of the unknown but YES dont read too much on the internet there are alot of crazy stories out there. You have to have confidence in your doctor and know your body to know what is right for you. Good luck to you.

Re: Nerves or ..

Just to say put trust in your surgeon, I had my op on 3/1/12 so it's early days for me,the worst pain being gas and my bladder and bowels getting back to normal. It is improving but very slowly. This was my first ever operation and had a TAH, 22 wk fibroid and cystic lesions on right ovary, so only have one ovary left. Surgery was a breeze and recovery is slow but improving. I am the biggest coward on earth and the lead up to the op was an absolute nightmare for me, weight loss and no sleep through worry, but trust me, it really is nothing to fear. You do need someone at home to spoil you though after to help you through the first weeks. I wish you all luck, and please don't hesitate if you want to ask any questions.x

Re: Nerves or ..

It must have been scary to bleed to the point of needing transfusions . That wasn't my issue but i had my LSH last week and have been doing well ever since ! Sounds like you are in the worst of it and the light at the end of the tunnel is coming . Good luck !

Re: Nerves or ..

I also went thru the heavy bleeding, anemia, birth control pills, D & C and uterine artery embolization because I did not want to have surgery. Now, I wish I would've had my hysterectomy done earlier. I felt amazingly better even the first week after surgery! Now, 6 weeks later I already have more energy and feel so much better. It's so nice not to feel fatigued 24/7 from the anemia! I just wanted you to know that I felt the same way but it was so worth having done! Good Luck
