Re: Abdominal incision

I didn't have staples either. My incision is about 8 inches long and was stiched from the inside. The bandage was taken off the 2 nd day after surgery. My doctor told me just to keep the area clean and wash the area with mild soap and water. I am 6 weeks post op today and I must say my doctor did an amazing job because my scar is not that bad looking. The first couple weeks you will need to take it slow and not over do it. I had swelly belly for about 4 weeks, but now it has gone down. During my 6 week checkup I learned that my uterus weighed 980 grams due to a large fibroid. Good luck to you!

Re: Abdominal incision

I had a bikini incision 1/17

So the first two days in hospital, I had a compression bandage that was very supportive.
Evening of day 2, they took off the bandage after I showered.
The incision looked like raised skin ridge with staples in it. The incision was very clean, almost no blood to be seen.
I had a loose gauze clothe over the staples that night. The doctor came to look at it the next day, uncovered it and told me it wouldn't need any wound care. (yay) I went home that day.
The next day (3 days post op) the staples were taken out (not painful at all) and replaced with steri strips that almost completely cover it.
The strips stay on for about 10 days before they start to fall off.

So all in all, it's a little Frankenstein for few days, but it's not gory.
