Need some advice about stitches

Hi ladies

As mentioned in my previous threads, alot of you probably know I am having issues with my dissolving stitches.
To update you:
I am 16 weeks post-op & still have stitches in my vagina that haven't dissolved.
My gynae told me that there were 2 types used, some dissolve at 2 months & the others at 6 months.
I do have a past history of reacting to dissolving stitches & them NOT dissolving!
They are causing lots of discomfort especially after sitting or on my feet for a long time.
Also, during intimacy my hubby can feel them at certain angles.(And that causes me more pain)
Plus, I still get intermittent low grade fevers.
I have a new question I want to ask but I don't want to talk to a doctor as I feel like a hypochrondiac!!

I have had some pain around my puncture sites that feels like someone in sticking pins in me. They can be quite uncomfortable at times but don't last for long.
Has anyone experienced this??

On top of this I still have a low ferritin level & low vitamin D.
I do try to walk 3-8km at least 3 times a week plus I work part-time as a RN in a surgical ward.

I am just so tired!

I have looked after patients who have recovered so much better than me...much be the medical worker's curse...lol!

Thanks for your time.
I love the support here

Re: Need some advice about stitches

Well, can't say anything useful about your problems, I'm afraid! I had dissolving stitches, and they just dissolved, so perhaps I'm lucky! I never saw any appearing out of my vagina like some here have (obviously not the dissolving type!)

However, as to your tiredness - are you surprised at that?
One factor must be your low ferritin level - as a nurse you will know how to deal with that, I suppose.
But over and above that, being a nurse must be a very active job and you are doing a fair bit of walking as well, so maybe you are just plain overdoing it? Are you resting enough, and getting enough sleep?
We might be past the early stages of recovery, but we are not 100% healed and you seem to have several issues still.
Hope you can rest more, and find some answers about your non-dissolving stitches!

Re: Need some advice about stitches

I can't say anything about the dissolving stitches but I did have a very low ferritin level (2). My doctor put me on iron and vitamin C, which you are probably on. He also tested me for a B12 deficiency and found my B12 levels very low. After taking B12, Iron and C for a few months, I feel much, much better. I have more energy and more mental clarity. My doctor attributed it mostly to the B12. Have you had your B12 levels tested?

Re: Need some advice about stitches

Thanks ladies.
I am on iron with vitamin C. I have had my B12 level checked & it is in normal levels but at the lower end.
As for overdoing it, that is a possibility but unfortunately I am not a sit down & take it easy person which is probably to my detriment.
I am just frustrated at present & want to get on with it as I am starting my masters degree next month.
Thanks for everything...just needed to vent!

Re: Need some advice about stitches

I had vaginal cuff stitches that did not dissolve until 5 1/2 months post op. My DH could feel them during intercourse. At 4 months the Doc tried to do something about it but they were too short to reach...believe me, he tried. At 7 weeks I did see some of them on the toilet paper. So fine and pale, like baby hair. They finally did dissolve or fall out.

Re: Need some advice about stitches

Thanks october1

My DH can feel mine too but it causes pain during those times of intimacy.
I have not seen any signs of the stitiches coming out.
Nothing on toilet paper or panty liner.

Time will tell!

Re: Need some advice about stitches

Good news ladies.....

The stitches issue is resolving. It has taken over 6 months but I am getting on top of it.

I am enjoying no more fevers & especially none of the "flooding" bleeding I used to get from my adenomyosis.

Now just to deal with my varicose veins. I have pelvic, vulvar & leg varicose veins.

I was hoping my hyster would help with this other problem. It did alleviate the bad pain but the cramping pain is still there.

Off to the vascular surgeon next week.

Hugs to you all

Carrie
