still bleeding, odor and strings

Had my surgery on Dec 19th. Everything went great and didn't really have a lot of pain. About a week home I started bleeding lightly, just on the pad and when I wipe. When I went in for my check up ond told the doctor I was bleeding. He said that is was normal, but now I am having odor and what looks like stringy bloody fibers s well. I hate to keep bugging my doctor and his staff, but I am getting a little concerned! Any suggestions, so glad I found you all!!

Re: still bleeding, odor and strings

Had the same thing to happen to me and my doc told me that it was normal also. Just know that the bleeding will go away, mine lasted for 1 month after my 2 week check-up. The stringy fiber is probably your stitches dissolving at least that's what i was told. I didn't want to bug my doctor either but i did.

You're at about the right time for the stitches to dissolve and the spotting and odor that can come with them. No worries.

Re: still bleeding, odor and strings

I had the same thing. The odor was gross. I had an infection. They put my on Cleocin as OI was allergic to Flagyl. Went away and a few days later infection was back. They put me on a double dose...not helping. I was healed enough to then get the Cleocin vaginal suppositories and it is cleared up. Strings occasionally come out. But no more blood/brown or odor. I am 5 weeks out and all good exccept rectal pain when stool is present in the decending and/or sigmoid colon. Quite uncomfortable.

Re: still bleeding, odor and strings

Oy. Smelly but no strings. Doctor didn't look, just did quick 'poke' and said that if I feel vaginal irritation to use Monostat 1. That is a pricey treatment for 'irritation' but she didn't say I had a yeast infection so I am not sure what is happening down there.

Re: still bleeding, odor and strings

finally decided to call the doc and have an appt. tomorrow. Think it might be an infection, but I will let you know. It is so nice to have someone to ask since my mom died at 54 and we didn't get into these type of questions and my mother-in-law just keeps telling me she never had any hot flashes or any problems. Thanks for all the support!

Re: still bleeding, odor and strings

Hello Ladies,

I had my surgery on 3 Jan so I am right at 3wks. I have an awful vaginal odor that I cant seem to shake. I am not itching or burning so I do not think I have an infection...but I am not a medical professional either So are you all saying this is a normal part of the healing process?? If so, how long does it last or what can I do?

BTW, I have really found comfort in reading the Hystrsister website. Unfortunately I never have any luck sending replies or asking questions. I hope this one goes.
Thanks

Re: still bleeding, odor and strings

I had my surgery 12/19 and am still having bleeding, ordor and strings. Finally spoke with my dr. who told me this is normal. Even though I had no stitches the fiber is most likely from the internal cutting and burning. Same for the ordor. He said unless I have any signs that feel like a bladder infection everything should be fine. I go back in two weeks for final check. He did tell me that f I ever have any questions to CALL that is what they are for.I think we all are "bothering" their office if we call, but come to think of it if we didn't call they wouldn't have a job. So, whe in doubt call!

Re: still bleeding, odor and strings

I too had some vaginal odor about one week post op (I had TAH 12.20.11). I had some incredible fevers right before the light brownish blood started showing, so I may have had an infection. I ended up on 875 of Aug. as well as had some IV antibiotics. I have not had anymore bleeding since and no odor, thankfully!

Keep up with your dr. and let them know, it's important that you don't offset your recovery.
