Surgery tomorrow- I NEED help!

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place but my surgery is in the morning and I feel like I have went crazy overnight. After months of planning and preparations I woke up this morning an emotional mess. For some reason every time I see my husband I start crying! I have no idea why I'm crying which confuses the heck out of him. He just wants to help and doesn't know how. I can be laughing and bawling at the same time just because he's standing there looking at me. I have too much to do to be dealing with this today. I could understand if I had already had the surgery but seriously, lol. Help!!

Re: Surgery tomorrow- I NEED help!

The only thing you NEED to do today is prep for surgery.

The rest can wait or someone else can do it. Make a list of things you would like done when you get home and ask husband, family or friends to do them for you, then sit back and breathe.

This is an emotional time and added stress doesn't help. Cry all you want and laugh about it too. Let your husband know it isn't about him, ask for a hug and go with the flow - easier than fighting it.

Re: Surgery tomorrow- I NEED help!

I remember a time when I felt the exact same way!! Take a deep breath, my dear this is completely normal!!

You are going to be having major surgery tomorrow, a life-changing surgery. It is completely normal to be emotional. I would cry for no reason as well, I would even wake up crying in the middle of the night. I guess that was just my body's way of dealing with the stress of what I was about to go through.

I agree with McLila....make sure your husband knows it isn't him that is making you cry. And yes, let it out. Don't hold it in. You need to get that stress out!!! Tomorrow is a big day!

to you!! tomorrow!!!

Re: Surgery tomorrow- I NEED help!

I felt the same way, and for a couple weeks after the surgery as well. It's major stress. I'll be thinking of you! It will get much better in the weeks to come.

Re: Surgery tomorrow- I NEED help!

I was the same way. I am 4 weeks post op today. After surgery I was actually so relieved. I felt like a hundred pounds was lifted off my chest. Best of luck to you on your surgery. Try to relax and spend some quality time with your hubby!

Re: Surgery tomorrow- I NEED help!

I would agree with McLila and everyone else. It is completely normal to feel very emotional before surgery. You will get done what you can before surgery and everything else can wait. I was very anxious about the whole process. I was still a little stressed about making sure that I was healing as well as possible, but I did feel relieved after the surgery. I had been thinking about it so long and it was good to be done with the decision. I will think positive thoughts for you tomorrow!

Re: Surgery tomorrow- I NEED help!

You are probably doing just what the rest of us did.
I had a memorable meltdown while getting pre-testing done at the hospital. I was walking in with husband and as soon as I got through the lobby doors I started bawling like a baby. The security guard was looking at poor husband like,"what did you do to her." I couldn't speak or even walk. Nice nurse brought me a wheel chair, and off they wheeled the psyche patient to radiology. A couple of chemo patients hugged me and seemed to understand the stress.
Yes, remind your husband that it's not him, and give yourself permission to act however you need to. You are on a journey, there will be an end before you know it.
Hugs to you

Re: Surgery tomorrow- I NEED help!

I started the crying and freaking out 2 days before the surgery. I was crying in pre op all the way up until they gave me the Versed to go into the OR. My husband said that as soon as they gave me the Versed, the tears stopped and I was talking about running lights. I woke up just fine, and so will you! Have Faith and he will guide you thru!!
