Question about travel

Good Evening all...

Just found out today that my tentative scheduled date is now a definite date. My biggest question (that hasn't been answered by my Gyn/Onc) is about travel.

The hospital I am going to is about 70 miles from where I live. I know that the drive post-surgery is going to be a lot uncomfortable. Does anyone have any advice on what to do, besides making sure to take my pain meds and having a pillow? It's not so much the drive that concerns me - it is time it is going to take.

Re: Question about travel

Wow. That is a long drive.

First off - have someone drive you. You cannot drive yourself for some time after surgery.

I would recommend a pillow that you put between the seat built and your tummy. Or maybe a towel, anything for a little padding. If you can, lean your seat back a bit. And you might want a blanket to cover yourself with.

Good luck with your surgery.

Re: Question about travel

Mine was 50 miles. I was warned to expect trouble, but had none. Odd sensation when the vehicle was stopping, I wouldn't call it pain.

The time seemed to fly by, you're still pretty drugged and not so coherent to realize the time, it feels fast.

Worst part of the drive, I craved taco bell, we had to make a detour!

Lucky for me there is one on the way back home.

Already have my driver set up, and he has been through surgery twice himself in the last few years, so he knows what it is like, just didn't have that much of a drive back then. One of the benefits of moving back to the Midwest...

Thanks for the advice all!
