Re: 3days post op, uncontrolled pain, problems with provider

Did she address the pain issue? Good friend with her NP or not, you were having issues.

I think it is totally normal to feel a emotionally tender at this stage. Just because they see it all the time and it is routine to them does not excuse not listening to you. This is your first hysterectomy. This is not routine for you. You are paying them to take care of you. Is your Dr holding up her end of the care bargain?

Hugs for you. Hang in there. Make them listen to you.

I guess I wouldn't have thought that it would happen like this if I kept an ovary. Hmmm....thanks though!!

Re: 3days post op, uncontrolled pain, problems with provider

also my dr. kept me on my pain meds on/off for 1st 8 weeks after.i think he felt guilty for not listening to the really bad pain i had before surgery and he told me with everything that was going on inside my body that he owed me an apology and this taught him to listen to patients better.i should have been in severe pain and i was like DUH-I COULD'VE TOLD YOU THAT.i know site says you should be off pain meds at 5 weeks but he said with everything he found he did want to keep me on them til 8 weeks.i was lucky to have dr. that listened to pain-issue after surgery and he was human enough to apologize for not listening to me before surgery.

Re: 3days post op, uncontrolled pain, problems with provider

I hear you about the annoying NP. I had a doctor once with a PA who was awful at best. She was curt and full of misinformation. She wouldn't take time to listen and came to snap judgments. For the most part she acted like she hated her job and patients were an inconvenience to be dealt with. The doctor was much more pleasant and easier to deal with but even if I specified the appointment with him, I often saw the PA instead.

I quit that doctor fairly quickly with a letter explaining why.

Being an emotional mess after this surgery is - I think - pretty much expected. They should understand that and be better understanding. Plus, she provided incorrect information. That's not a personality conflict issue.

If you have problems talking it out, you might consider taking the time to write it out so you get all your thoughts in order and present it as non-threatening as possible.

Good Luck! Hoping you feel better soon.

Scarywitchy- I also kept an ovary and wasn't expecting so much of the hormonal stuff. You're not alone there for sure. I've been weepy, frustrated, having hot flashes, tired.....I know you know. Cut yourself some slack. Bottom line is you didn't feel okay with the NP so you shouldn't have to deal with her.

Re: 3days post op, uncontrolled pain, problems with provider

Thank you sisters! I talked with the NP and clarified some stuff. The information wasn't incorrect, it was just not explained well.

I am having hormone issues but they should pass.

Feeling better about my relationship with the NP.

Hugs to you all!
