Pre-op visits

Yesterday I went for my pre-op visits to my gyn and also the hospital. Thanks to this site and all the wonderful advice here I was able to even know what to ask and to have my list of questions answered thoroughly. I am having a TAH/BSO and my doctor thinks the surgery should only take 45 minutes and even with the adhesions we are sure I have, he doesn't think it should take much longer than an hour. He is having another gyn assist. I don't want to appear pessimistic but still I think this is a pretty ultra-conservative time estimate considering the decades of problems I have had. We will see. I'm interested to hear how long anyone else's surgeries took. He also says I will be in the hospital probably 2 or 3 days. I have to wear my two hospital tags on my wrist for the rest of the week until my surgery on Monday January 30. That seems kind of strange. I have to wrap them in plastic whenever I take a shower. I had bloodwork, chest and throat x-rays, and ekg done. Things are a little more complicated because of my heart disease and DISH arthritis, which is partly why I have to have the abdominal instead of the davinci. Having had several weeks to get emotionally and physically ready for this surgery (and finding this wonderful site!) has really helped. I am much calmer and optimistic now. Good luck and best wishes to all and thanks for all the information you have posted.

Re: Pre-op visits

I am so glad you were able to ask questions and get the answers that you need. I also had a TAH/BSO, with some excision of endometriosis. I was back in my hospital room with my hubby 2 and a half hours after the scheduled start of the surgery, and that would have included my stay in the recovery room. At that point, though, the time didn't make a whole lot of difference to me.

Take care and keep us posted on how things go. For what it's worth, I am 8 weeks post-op and I haven't felt this good in a long time! I was able to be up and about very quickly. I followed doctors orders, and had a great recovery.i hope that the same will be true for you.

Re: Pre-op visits

My surgery was a TAH BSO and took about 90 minutes. I was in recovery for about 2 hours. I was in the hospital for three days.

I agree, it does seem strange that you are wearing your hospital bracelet already. I had blood work, EKG and blood pressure check.

I am glad this site has helped. I also have found much healing here. You may still experience a range of emotions as your surgery approaches. That is normal. But, you know where to get on and express those. We understand.

Good luck to you during your surgery. We will be waiting for you on the other side.
