Post-Op Pelvic Pressure and Pain

Hello - I had the DaVinci robot assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy on January 17th. Since that time, I've felt an incredible pelvic pressure - almost like a prolapsed uterus. My doctor says give it time. But it's very disappointing, because I had an enlarged uterus, due to fibroids, and another fibroid external to the uterus which was grapefruit sized. I had hoped for more relief from constant pelvic pressure by this time. I don't seem to have any bleeding, although I do have the urge to urinate frequently.

Of course, I have a friend who had a hysterectomy 12 years ago who seems to feel my life should be entirely back to normal 8 days after surgery, and should be feeling no pain or pressure. So there seems to be some family and peer pressure to say that everything is wonderful, when it's not.

Re: Post-Op Pelvic Pressure and Pain

Considering that during DvH, they blow up your tummy full of gas so they can see in there, it isn't surprising that you are experiencing pressure. You could have gas remaining in your abdominal cavity. You will also experience pressure if you are on your feet too long.

As to your friend, it probably would be best if you can keep away from her until you are recovered. Everyone heals at their own rate and there is nothing anyone can do to rush that.

I hope you feel better soon!

Re: Post-Op Pelvic Pressure and Pain

I am 14 days post op, and sometimes have that pressure and pain still. You have a long way to go for your recovery! You will have good days with minimal pain, and days that it hurts. Rest......

Re: Post-Op Pelvic Pressure and Pain

I too have been feeling that pelvic pressure, I will be at one week post op tomorrow. Each day is a little better, but wish I could snap my fingers to go back to normal again.

Re: Post-Op Pelvic Pressure and Pain

I am 2 weeks post-op TLH. I have constant pressure especially if I have been sitting upright for a while. It is in front and back.....sitting on my bottom brings lots of pressure behind, and wiping after peeing brings lots of pressure up front. blahhh....

It will get better Just remember to take it easy!!
