Countdown to Surgery!

So glad I checked this site out from one of my brochures from doctor.

I will be having surgery in just a few weeks. Have put it off since March of 2011 when my doc discovered a golf ball cyst in the lining of uterus. Pain has steadily increased and affecting my life and controlling it. Hard to do day to day things because of period twice a month most months and last 8 to 10 days. I have had enough, I am ready for surgery. Yes I am scared, never been put to sleep. Never had surgery. Had Tubal but wasn't put to sleep because of two epidurals for childbirth.

Had alot of questions, but thanks to this site and reading thru everyones post most questions have been answered. As the day draws near I am sure there will be questions.

My husband and family are planning my recovery and them being there. Blessed with an awesome DH & family.

I told them I am having a demolition done. Out with the Factory and in with a playground...LOL Just ready to live atleast halfway normal life...

Re: Countdown to Surgery Feb 16th!

Hi Sunset, I finally scheduled my surgery for Feb. 17th. I thought I would have mixed emotions about actually doing it but I have never been so relieved to know that after this date I will no longer have to wake up in pain!!!! Good Luck with everything.

Re: Countdown to Surgery Feb 16th!

Oh I am not alone, basically we are on the same schedule for this! Will remember this Valentines Holiday for sure! Kjday a day before then myself and K9wifey right behind you.

Will your surgeries be outpatient? I was told mine is, sometimes they keep you overnight. It's strange to have these mixed emotions. Scared of surgery but so happy that I may live without so much pain afterwards. And it will not control what I can or feel like doing.

Re: Countdown to Surgery Feb 16th!

I put my surgery off for over a year as well.
I am 2 weeks post=op today daVinci total hysterectomy.
I had the same feelings and apprehensions about having surgery, but after my last period in December, I was BEGGING for it. Of course I am in the early stages of recovery, so I can't 'sing any praises' yet.

Re: Countdown to Surgery Feb 16th!

Hello tlprell!
Hope your recovery goes smoothly. And that your on the home stretch without pain and heavy bleeding. That's what I am looking forward to.

I have never heard of the Davinci procedure until I joined this sight. It's a robot surgery? or am i totally wrong?

I think I am to the desperate point that I just trust the doctor to do what has to be done to make this all better. I hope I have thought everything thru enough??

Re: Countdown to Surgery Feb 16th!

Yes, as I have learned on this website, daVinci is the robot. Before I got on this site, I just referred to my surgery as "robotic laparoscopic total hysterectomy" (removed uterus and cervix)
From my experience so far, in my opinion, here's some of my feedback.
1. If you have an option to stay overnight in the hospital overnight, DO IT.
2. The air/gas pressure for the first 4 to 5 days can be almost unbearable. Look for ways/suggestions on relieving this.
3. I highly suggest planning ahead concerning post-op bowel movements. I stocked up on glycerin suppositories, saline enemas, stool softeners, gas pills, fiber powder, etc. before my surgery. I did not give my bowels a chance to get stopped up. I made sure I was 'all cleaned out' before going in for surgery that way I had the situation under control when I got home. My first bowel movement after surgery took a few days, but it wasn't a problem.
I also recommend having something on-hand for nausea. I had some pretty bad episodes of nausea through my 4th post-op day.
4. REST - I read a bunch of unrealistic 2-week recovery stories and have pushed myself too hard. I am taking a few steps back and resting more in my 3rd week.
5. My really loose-waisted flannel pajamas have been my friend. Be sure you have a couple of sets of super comfy pj's that don't fit tight on your waist.
6. Pantiliners - I have had to use one every day so far for little bits of discharge/leakage. I did have some bleeding on day 12.

I'll post more if I thnk of anything.

Re: Countdown to Surgery Feb 16th!

Hi Sunset!
My Da Vinci surgery is scheduled for February 17th and I am very anxious even tho I totally trust my doctor and have a lot of support from my husband and family. I have a long list of questions to ask at my pre-op on Feb. 7th. This site has been really helpful and has answered a lot of my questions already. at this point I'm ready to get it over with. Good luck! I'll be thinking about you.
