HRT and other supplements

I have been taking Premarin for about a month now (8 weeks post op today). I am on the .65000 dose and doc says it is about 1/5 of hormone that was in birth control pills that I took. I am really seeing success from this. I added a magnesium supplement to help with aches and restless legs. It causes a bowel movement every day, but I am not suffering the leg pain any more. I also switched to a women's 50+ vitamin because doc said it has more of the vitamins we need after hyster, even if we aren't fifty yet. I have had limited success with melatonin for sleeping. I might up the dose a bit, but I still suffer from insomnia some nights. I am game for other suggestions for supplements that have worked for others. My sweats and flashes are gone and moodiness is much better. I hate taking prescriptions so much, so do share your alternatives. It seems like many of us are looking for ideas.

Re: HRT and other supplements

Hi tennessee!

I would love to know others' non-prescription secrets to good sleep, too!

I know a few things that I do which end up sabotaging a good night's sleep:
- drinking too much water close to bedtime (makes me wake up to go)
- taking a nap during the day
- eating too close to bedtime
- drinking more than 1 cup of coffee in a day or having caffeine (including chocolate, tea, cola) past early evening/late afternoon.
- getting too warm (I often freeze everyone out of the house but I sleep so much better when I'm nice and cool)

When I am tired and still cannot seem to fall asleep, reading often helps to get me to get there.

Hopefully we'll pick up a few pointers from others!
