Tips for long car ride home from Castle

I'm excited to get to the castle after an uncomfortably long 3 month wait, I will be having an LSH and A/P repairs ("simple" repairs, stitches only).

I am less excited about the fact that the excellent hospital I'm having my surgery at is about 2.5 hours away from my house.

Did anyone have an OK long car ride home? And/or do you have tips for how to make it more comfortable? Specific medication? Special type of donut pillow that you loved?

Thanks, sisters!

I had a one-hour drive home from the , and I can tell you it was NOT a very pleasant experience. I felt every bump in the road!

My dh got a bed pad to put down on the car seat. I did not bleed or anything, but it gave us peace of mind in case I had.

I used a regular bed pillow between me and the seat belt, and then I used another pillow between me and the door. This felt very good to rest against!

I was also very fortunate in that the gave me two pain pills "for the road" about 15 minutes before I left. This really helped me doze during the trip.

With such a long ride, you might want to consider taking a break after an hour or so. It would be good for you to at least stretch your legs a little bit!

I'll be curious to see what other (((sisters))) have to say on this subject, because I know there are many who had longer car rides home than I had.

Re: Tips for long car ride home from Castle

This is the same advice I was given (I have about an 1-1/2 hour drive) - except for the part about the pain pills. Gonna have to remember that.

Doing a shopping expedition this weekend to find some appropriate pillows.

I have two suggestions:
1. Cushion your booty in anyway possible
2. Take something in advance for nausea

I also had a long car ride home. It was definitely unpleasant. I had a pillow with me, reclined the seat far back and held the seltbelt off my tummy the whole way. Good luck.

Thanks so much, these are all great ideas! I will be sure to bring muchos pillows and ask for pain/nausea meds for the road! And take a break to stretch my legs (which, with my grapefruit-sized fibroid, we are accustomed to doing anyway!!).

Also, Out of curiosity, if you were me would you stay a second night in the castle or get home to your own bed more quickly? (in general, I'd rather be at home than in the hospital).

Re: Tips for long car ride home from Castle

For me, one night was enough. Once I had been up and walked around a little, urinated, and ate a little bit, I was ready to get out of there by noon the next day.
I could not imagine spending that first night at home, for sure.

I wanted to go home the next day. They don't really let you sleep much since they have to take vitals on a schedule.

I agree with the pillows. You'll need one between the belly and the seatbelt!

Good luck!
