my dr. told me no intense belly exercises for at least 3 months post surgery.i waited 6 months after my c-sections.every kind of hyster maybe different on outside but they basically did the same thing on inside.
remember you're just 40% better @6 weeks,80%6months and 1 full year for 100%
please keep this in mind.i am not hurting myself in order to get more in shape
think about getting adhesions or really hurting yourself no matter how better you think you are,its just not worth it
but the dr. did tell me slow buildup on any exercise but i do enough walking at work where i am not worried,i am gonna just take my time and not worry about being firmed up after such a slow hurry up and wait recovery.take your time,i'd just do a little at a time and pace yourself.but thats basically what dr. told me.take it slow, you dont wanna have any pain like i had ever again.i'll probably wait until march to start exercises besides walking

There were several videos on safe and effective ways of getting those muscles strong enough to do more aggressive workouts later in our recoveries.

Please be careful and patient with your bodies as you return to your workout routines. I have to remind myself to do the same daily.
Thanks for the advice. I wondered about doing abdominal exercises. I will stay away from them. I went to my second Zumba class and tried holding in the abs again and it was difficult. I went to my family doctor two days ago and told him about it. He said that it's because of the adhesions. He said that it takes awhile to heal and to take things slow. I'm debating on maybe doing a yoga video instead of Zumba??? I'm lost really on what to do other then walking. And here in Michigan, I can't always walk outside.

Thanks for the advice. You are three days ahead of me Christinatas. I think I need to just stick with walking whenever I can. Maybe Zumba is too early for me right now.

Re: Exercise 11 weeks post op

[quote=dallas49001; it felt like my stomach was a solid mass that didn't want to move. It's hard for me to explain. But it felt like my stomach was hard and wasn't as "flexible." Has anyone else experienced this?[/QUOTE]

I know exactly what you mean! I was trying to describe it to someone and the closest thing I came up with to illustrate was to equate my stomach/pelvic floor to an old fashioned record album cover...you know the big square cardboard. When I tried to pull in my stomach muscles they would " bend" a bit, but the whole area felt like one big piece of slightly flexible cardboard with definite sore spots or healing points at the corners. The description works better as a visual :-)

That sensation has lessened over the past few weeks and I am getting less internal indications of issues. You are a few weeks behind me so hopefully you will be feeling more flexible soon.

I'm glad you heard your body's protests and took it down a notch. I'm finding the longer it takes to heal, the less I worry about getting back to my old levels....it will happen eventually. I just want to make sure I heal completely so that I don't have any setbacks.

Take care
Louba

Re: Exercise 11 weeks post op

Dallas, is there a place nearby that you could walk inside? A community college nearby has a walking track open to the public for free, and as much as I dislike the idea, what about mall walking?

Re: Exercise 11 weeks post op

I am seven weeks 2 days post-op. I have been "walking" since day 2 - laps at the hospital because of bowel problems, then walking the mall weeks 2 to 4, always with the tummy pillow! Then went back to work week 5; this is my fourth week back. So I have been fairly active. But then I weighed myself Monday, and I have gained 5 pounds since surgery. And in the six months before the surgery I had gained 10 pounds, which I now attribute to the anemia - I just had no energy. (My OBGYN never tested my blood, despite years of complaining about the heavy periods and knowing about the fibroids. My first appointment with surgeon, she was shocked and sent me for blood count. Next day, she called me to go immediately to ER, I was severely anemic. Got 5 pints transfused.)

So I walked Monday and yesterday, fast pace for an hour, and now today my stomach has seemed to take a step backward: more sensitive to touch and some shooting pains again and a little sore when I stand up and sit down. UGH! These things have slowly but surely gotten better to really almost nothing. I haven't had the "two steps forward, one step backward" for a few weeks now. Thought that was over.

I have all the same questions as you guys..my doc said I could exercise after 3-4 weeks. but i wasn't sure what kind of exercises.. next week when i see her I will ask.. I have been doing yoga for years,, but a pretty strenuous type.. so i plan to start with gentle yoga first... meanwhile since I live in Florida I ahve begun to walk( slowly) a mile a day.. and this feels good..
let's keep sharing how it goes.. I am only at week after surgery right now.. so it is good to ehar how everyone is doing

Re: Exercise 11 weeks post op

I specifically asked my GYN if I could resume Zumba and I was at 8 weeks when I asked her. She said, "You can return to exercise." I'm wondering now if she heard me say Zumba??? I am going to look into walking in the schools after work when it's cold. I too thought that the one step forward, two steps back was over with. Guess not.
