Re: Surgery set for 2.3.12

Just remember we are all different and heal at different speeds! And some have complications and unexpected setbacks, so it's not possible to make valid comparisons.

I had to say that before saying that I am at 5 months after a TAH/BSO (that is cervix, uterus, tubes and ovaries). Have a vertical incision from the belly button to the pubic area.
But I have healed well (no it was not painless, but I faithfully did all the sensible things!), and now I am doing everything I did before my op. and have been doing since about 3 1/2 months.
I live alone and had housework help till about 6 weeks and then I started carefully doing such things as vacuuming (I have a tiny one level unit) and mowing the lawn (tiny lawn!) and from then on I just slowly got back into my normal routines. Back to work at 7 weeks.
I'm now climbing hills in the weekends like I used to do pre-op. (for exercise) and hope to get back on my bike to commute to work next week. I'm nervous about that as it's quite a long way!
I feel terrific. Pain-free and quite fit. Sadly, I have the evening swelly-belly problem STILL, but it doesn't seem to bear any relation to what I've been doing, like it used to (it used to swell if I was very active)
So - you don't know at this stage when you will feel ready to do things like you used to. I may have been earlier than some but I'm also later than others who were doing stuff at 6 weeks that I couldn't/wouldn't do.
Everyone has to be really careful for at least 6 weeks - no lifting more than 5 lbs (or is it 10 lbs!?), lots of rest, no major housework, regular walking (a big help to healing).

You will find the surgery a breeze, I reckon! The recovery is a little rough for most of us for a start, but look ahead to the day when you will feel fully recovered - the time goes fast.
