Re: No thyroid but now hyperthyroidism

I'm assuming you have an endocrinologist who told you you are now hyperthyroid. What does the endocrinologist suggest that you do?

Having your ovaries removed and going on estrogen replacement can affect the way your body processes the synthroid. Your endocrinologist will probably want to adjust your dosage.

Hugs,
Linda

Re: No thyroid but now hyperthyroidism

I had a change in my TSH after surgery. I am hypothyroid, and it went to 0.9. I usually run around 1.8 or 2. I have been on Synthroid for 14 years.

I had a feeling it might change, with my ovaries removed, so I am asking for more testing in 4-6 weeks (my idea).

I would not be surprised if my dosage needs to be cut back after all the hormonal changes settle out. I have not started HRT yet, which might be another factor for the future.

Re: No thyroid but now hyperthyroidism

I don't know if I'd add another variable into your medication cocktail right now. When you had your hysterectomy, your estradiol levels probably fell. You mentioned that you are only on a low replacement dose. The way it seems to work is that with a rise in estrogen level, it creates a greater need for thyroid replacement medication. The opposite is also true...if you lower your estrogen level, you might find you need less thyroid replacement. Estrogen and thyroid hormones do impact eachother. You may have read that progesterone makes your thyroid hormones work better? If they work any better, your free levels may go even higher. I wanted to also mention that syptoms of hyperthyroid (heart palpitations, anxiety, sweating etc.) can also be symptoms of low estrogen. It becomes a bit stickier when working with thyroid AND estrogen. You definitely need your Dr. to just keep a watch on the numbers.
