pain location post-op

:new I had a davinci hysterectomy on 1/25/2012. Ironically, the sore throat from a traumatic intubation was much more troublesome than my post-op pain. However, now 5 days post-op, I'm having more suprapubic discomfort than right after surgery. I'm worried that I may have done too much because I felt so good even though I'm trying to take it easy. How do you know if you've overdone? Thanks.

Re: pain location post-op

I've found pain to be my sign of doing too much, for me the pain is always in my right side, when I do too much. I also found more pain at a week out from surgery then at a day out. I think the first few days we still have the medications from the surgery in us. Try to do nothing and keep your feet up. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: pain location post-op

katjellis, I too had those very low pains just above the pubic. In my case it was all the build up of the fluids inside that are caused by the internal healing. The more time I spent sitting upright or standing or walking the more these fluids fell into the lowest cavity of my ab which is the pelvis. So, I made sure to lye back more and not sit or stand or walk for long periods. I am now pain free from it. If this doesn't help you please call your Dr's office and tell them because there are also complications where the fluid buildup becomes an abcess which becomes an infection. However, if you had an abcess you would probably have a fever too. Good Luck.

Re: pain location post-op

I'm over 8 weeks out and I still get the pain in my lower abdomen if I do too much. Then it's time for laying on the bed or couch with my feet up for a while which always helps.
