Re: Feel sick after eating

Each woman should work with herr own doctors to make sure there is no underlying health concern that needs addressed, but I can share my experiences for the last several years to see if it helps. I have dealt with this issue for many years, seemingly since my hysterectomy, and am currently battling it again.

When I was working with a gastroenterologist, she shared with me that the entire digestive system is connected. That sounds like "Duh", but what I didn't think about was that if our bowels are not working efficiently--and I was dealing with constipation then--our digestive system sort of backs up so to speak. The large intestine tells the small intestine to slow down, the small intestine sends a signal to the stomach to slow down, etc. The result can be that after eating food can then sit in the stomach longer, mixing with the various gastric juices and such, and causing nausea and bloating. Of course, that leads to no appetite.

So, if your bowels are not functioning well (and a whole chain reaction can occur with diarrhea or stomach issues, too) and/or you are constipated which can occur after surgery from anesthesia and meds, those issues could be causing the chain reaction that leads to nausea and feeling sick after eating.

Also, I have to watch getting dehydrated which can lead to constipation and which is part of why I am having current issues. It can be easy to not drink enough water so it can be good to keep a not to make sure one is drinking the proper amount. I sometimes post one on the fridge and make a mark every time I fill my glass.

Additionally, hormones can affect the digestive system, too. For those of us with ovaries, we can have more issues around ovulation when our bodies may produce extra gastro juices. For those with HRT, it could be when and how you get your hormones that are the key.

For anyone dealing with this type of issue, keeping a detailed syptom diary can help. Try to keep track of not only symptoms, but also anything and everything you eat and drink as well as medications and supplements.

To try to ease the situation, eat frequent, small light meals that are more easily digested and try to drink plenty of water. At times, I have to go back to using Miralax (prescribed by my gastro) for awhile to get my system going again. Drinking "food" can also be helpful. Because I can't afford to lose weight, when I have appetite and eating issues my doctors and dietitians have recommended drinking shakes, High Protein Boost, Carnation Breakfast, etc. to make sure I am taking in nutrition. They shared it can be easier to drink than eat. Popsicles, pudding, jello, etc. can also be easier to take in.

I know it can be very miserable stomach wise, and for me with low sugar I also end up with a headache and other symptoms because I tend to stop eating to try to keep from feeling sick to my stomach!

in there and don't hesitate to touch base with your GP, too.

Oh yes! Plenty of water! Forgot to mention that as well lol.
Also...Like Weiser had said, check with your doctor 1st.
We are all different. What works for one, may not be okay for another.
