TAH hysterectomy

It's been 3 years and I'm not taking HRT drugs and I'm in total hot flash and aniety torture. I am going to talk to my doctor about using the patch with estirol only. Any advise? I am 52.

Re: TAH hysterectomy

I'm sorry that you're dealing with hot flashes and anxiety. No doubt there are many members on this site who can relate to that, so you're sure not alone!

You're smart to discuss your concerns with your doctor. I've been using the Vivelle Dot estradiol estrogen patches for years and love them. They are very convenient and effective for me. Perhaps your doctor will have samples of it (or other patches) for you to try. Here's a link to articles which include information about various estrogen options: Hormone Jungle Articles.

Let us know what your doctor says, okay?

P. S. - It would be helpful if you would complete your Member Survey. Knowing whether or not you still have your ovaries will help us when responding on the support boards.

Re: TAH hysterectomy

I had uterus cervix and ovaries all taken out and I am very regretful and very angry the doctor(female) did nit discuss the long term affects it would have. Horrible weight gain. 80 lbs. Can't stand to be in my own skin. Taking Zoloft and Xanax which is helping some.

Re: TAH hysterectomy

I think many of us did not realize the long term affects of menopause. For some, it is not so bad, but others it can have life long consequences. I never thought to even ask my doctor about surgical menopause. He put a patch on my hip after surgery and that was it. When I went in to discuss my symptoms, he patted me on the arm and said "there, there, it will be okay." I'm not angry at him, he was a good doctor and helped me at a time that I needed help. I realized quickly that surgical menopause was not his expertise. I found another doctor that had more experience in that area.

If you have gained that much weight, it could be a thyroid imbalance. Have you had your thyroid checked?

Re: TAH hysterectomy

I have had my thyroid checked but not recently. I will have her check it again as I am having heart palpitations and many what seems to be adrenaline surges.
