Do I need hormones?

I'm 5 weeks out from my hysterectomy. All was removed except the R ovary. I'm 52. I was doing ok until 6 days ago. Sunday i RAN out of my Bible meeting feeling like i was going to die! And its gotten worse. These are my symptoms which are increasing:
1- extreme bloating after I eat
2- severe depression
3- extremely severe anxiety which is causing me a great deal of fear
4- sensitivity to noise (associated to anxiety)
5- great irritability
6- irrationality
7- extreme body chills

I did some googling and it appears it's due to a decrease in estrogen??? Please can someone help/advise??? I can't take this on my own!

Re: Do I need hormones?

It could be a hormone issue even though you have one remaining ovary. Sometimes the remaining one does not produce the amount of estrogen needed. It could also be a thyroid problem which is common following a hysterectomy. I would advise you to call your Dr. too make them aware of the problems you are having and ask them to test your thyroid. It's important they check the FT3 and FT4. Good luck.

Re: Do I need hormones?

The first symptom I experienced after surgery was severe anxiety even though they put me on an estrogen patch. It wasn't until the following week when my doctor doubled my patch dosage that my anxiety went away. I would check with your doctor.

Sounds like I was exactly about 2 yrs ago. Is horrid isn't it???
Is sounds like you could definitely use some ESTROGEN. I would give my dr. a call right away and ask to be seen right away. (sometimes it can take weeks and I don't want you to suffer more, I know I've been there like you with the same symptoms) Call your gyn tell them what is going on with you and tell them you can't take this anymore.

Re: Do I need hormones?

I agree that you need to give your Dr a call. It is common to feel "depleted" of estrogen around the 6 weeks past your hysterectomy. It is the body using up estrogen stored in the body. That is why you are feeling worse now.
The patch you are on now just might not be enough now. Some women are extremely sensitive, symptomatic, and aware of how they feel....especial emotional symptoms like anxiety and depression. I had a similar experience after my hyster. It can be so distressing but I promise it does get better!

Another suggestion... Are you on any probiotics? During surgery you receive a lot of antibiotics. It can disturb the natural flora in the GI tract afterwards. Taking a good probiotic everyday can help with that bloating feeling.

Good luck feeling better!

Re: Do I need hormones?

I called the doc and he prescribed some Estradiol... I'm picking it up this a.m. and laying low until it begins its work. This is worse than anything I've ever felt!!!

Re: Do I need hormones?

Hi. I am scheduled for a TAH and removal of left ovary in a few weeks. You are describing one of the outcomes I've been most concerned about. How has the estradiol worked for you?
