Very heavy bleeding 7 weeks PO

I have been suffering for the last few days with the flu and a kidney infection. Then on top of that, I went to the bathroom last night and I passed very large clots of blood. And immediately after large amounts of dark red blood just start gushing out. I freaked out. I made my husband come in and the look on his face was awful! He brought me the phone and I call the on call doctor because I was never told this was going to happen. He informed me that this bleeding was normal as the stitches started to dissolve. After only ten minutes I had soaked clear through a pad, and went through three more that hour. I barely slept because I could just feel the blood pouring out. I'm in a lot of pain from what I thought was the kidney infection but that doctor told me its pointless to go to the emergency room because they cant do anything for me. Has anyone else experienced anything like this!?

If you are soaking through more than a pad an hour, you need to go to the Emergency Room. As stitches dissolve there my be increased bleeding, but what you described seems excessive. Please call your doctor or head to the ER to be evaluated. It's always better to err on the side of caution. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon.

Thats what I thought too but the on call doctor made it sound so silly to go to the hospital. It feels gross to say this but I can FEEL the warm blood just push out when I move. He said its old blood coming out. But old blood wouldnt be this color I dont think. I sent my husband to work this morning thinking I was fine and now I'm a little scared!

Re: Very heavy bleeding 7 weeks PO

Please tell us that you have gone to the ER. That sounds like way too much blood no matter what the colour.

I agree. You need to get this checked out now. If your husband can't leave work, is there anyone who can take you to the ER? Are you still soaking through a pad each hour?
