Getting Scared

Hi Everyone. I'm trying to be patient and read through the posts, but I'm a little nervous. Surgey is this Thursday, Feb 9, 2012. I'm completely ok with the no kids thing. (I'm 40). I'm ok with not having my uterus, and absolutely ok, with no more pain. He is what scares me.....
1.) Sex drive
2.) Prolapse of either bladder or rectum, this really scares me.
Please any help would be appreciated. Good luck to us all.
God Bless.

Re: Getting Scared

Peep13 - Everyone is different regarding what effect this surgery has on your sex life. I can tell you my experience (I am 46). I had a TAH BSO (total abdominal hysterectomy and both ovaries removed). My orgasms are not as intense as they used to be (I miss the muscle contraction), but they happen more frequently. So, who knows what the body will do? Also, as my energy returns, my sex drive itself is returning to pre-surgery levels.

My understanding that prolapse of the bladder or rectum is a greater risk with this surgery. You can ask your doctor about ways to strengthen your pelvic floor. There is also information on this site. Some women swear by the Kegels exercises.

Re: Getting Scared

I had a TVH in July. I see your keeping your ovaries so your sex drive shouldn't be affected too much. I agree with marestail, I really miss the uterine contractions that I used to have with orgasms. I still have them and they are relatively easy to achieve but sometimes rather disappointing. As far as the pelvic floor concerns, I think as long as you do Kegels you'll be ok. Ask your doctor for suggestions.
