Oh yes, a litle advise before you do this. Get baby wipes to wipe yourself. I didn't and regret it. I wiped myself raw for as many time as I went to the bathroom.

Re: Pre op bowel Prep! bleck!

Jodi, the bowel prep is not painful at all. Your doc just wants your bowels to be empty before surgery. All the things mentioned are to make you go a bit quicker than normal. Having your bowels empty before surgery really helps when you have your first post op BM. Enemas work quickly and well. I don't know what choices you were given, but that's a quick one. Miralax has no taste so it tastes like what ever you mix it with. Magnesium Citrate works great as well. Don't be afraid to ask your DR what she recommends. Smooth Move tea is great, my personal choice. It tastes great and tea is relaxing. I would start on stool softners now. Drink lots of water always. Take care, you'll do great.

Mine kicked in "full force" in about 4 hours..but my body is really really slow..almost like I'm constipated a lot (tmi sorry). But you DONT want to leave the house after you drink it!

As far as only if you cramp, I didn't it was fine for me..BUT your "bottom" WILL be very sore!! So just get some wipes maybe some for hemroids too because they with soothe it. My body is so slow I had to still "go" 1 or 2 times before I left for the hospital at 4am.

Really..its OK I was more afraid of the bowel prep than the surgery & it was really not so bad. Hope that helps! See you on the other side! I'm 4 weeks davinci I feel GREAT!

Re: Pre op bowel Prep! bleck!

I have to drink the 10 oz. bottle of magnesium citrate with "plenty" of water and then do an enema, TONITE! I've been doing the clear liquid diet all day and am so hungry and bored! Thank god for this website and the support from all you ladies! I have done this prep before for my first colonoscopy a couple years ago, but it doesn't get any easier. Hopefully, by tomorrow at this time I will be allowed to eat! My best to everyone!

Re: Pre op bowel Prep! bleck!

I had to drink two 10 oz. bottles of magnesium citrate saline laxative - I poured it over ice and drank it with a straw, had to finish it within one hour. Got the grape flavor but they have lemon and plain. I laid down to rest and in about an hour I had frequent, loose bm's that were not painful but certainly frequent. I had to do a fleet enema before bed and another fleet enema in the morning before my surgery.

I had been given leg exercises to do a couple of weeks before - DO NOT do any leg exercises after you take whatever you need to take or it will cause you to 'go'!! I also made the mistake of lying on my side with my knees bent! BAD idea!!

I was happy after surgery that I had done the prep because I knew that I had a few days before I would need a bm since I had not eaten - liquid diet first day in hospital and not much of an appetite when I got home.

following your doctor's recommendations is your best plan, I promise you will get through it!!

Re: Pre op bowel Prep! bleck!

I had my pre-op bowel prep today, after being on a clear liquid diet. (I'm a bit jealous!) It wasn't necessarily painful, but took quite a while for me to get out if the bathroom. I had to get a prescription for Peg 3350, its was 4 liters and salty! I had to drink 8-10oz. every 15 minutes until gone. And I'm not done because before going to the castle I was also instructed to do 2 enemas. (I'm not looking forward to that tomorrow morning.) My best advice is choose what seems to be less intimidating. Don't forget wet wipes and some vaseline helps protect your bottom. My hysterectomy surgery tomorrow also includes transfundal venography for pelvic congestion and possible pudendal nerve compression. Good Luck!
