one week post op is bath ok??

Hello all,

So I'm a week out if surgery, I really want to sit in a bath....rather then always taking a shower and standing. Baths are more relaxing and soothing. My post op instructions say no bath for two weeks. Didn't want to call the docs office and bother them with this question. Anyone know why no bath for two weeks?

Thank u ladies!!

Re: one week post op is bath ok??

Please follow your post-op instructions. You have vaginal cuff sutures that should not be compromised under any circumstances. Your incisions also need time to heal completely. A bath is simply not worth the risk of infection or complication. You will have the rest of your life to take baths.

Please do not hesitate to call your doctor's office, they are there to help. No questions should be a 'bother'. That being said, I totally understand your hesitation to call but it really is OK!!

Definitely follow your discharge instructions. Baths can cause infection in your incisions as well as your vaginal cuff (if you have one), so they should be avoided until your says it is okay.

I know it is hard, with all the aches and pains you are feeling, a nice hot bath WOULD be fabulous, but unfortunately, you need to wait!! It will be worth the wait though!!

to you in the rest of your recovery!!

Amazed at how drs differ I was ok'd got tub baths in my discharge papers. I however have not taken one in fear of the soap water and anything off my skin getting in there. Maybe its a type-o. I might call again today. I secretly enjoy bothering them

Re: one week post op is bath ok??

I am 12 days post-op from a TAH with 1 ovary removed. I broke down last night and took a very shallow bath that was very quick. I forgot to ask him yesterday at my follow-up. I did just fine and felt so much better afterwards. My hubby is a physician and said he didn't see any reason why not if I didn't fill it up too high and kept the incision out of the water. I'm going to call today to be sure that this is okay, though. Don't want to screw up!
