Re: Surgery in April, very frightened

Hi Vapfear,

Try not to be so afraid, and pray alot. Ask God to help you through this difficult time and he will.

I was also afraid and death did cross my mind. The day before my surgery I was shaking so bad, I stopped trembling and started praying asking God to please watchover me and let everything go well. I thought I was going to be a wreck the day of surgery but I was fine. Thank God.

I am post op 4 weeks today, and I feel wonderful. I thought I would be in alot of pain, but I have not been in any pain. A few twinges here and there, but no pain medicine at all. I did have painful gas bubbles, but walking cured that.

My largest fibroid was 10 x 20 and the doc said I had to many to count. I was not happy being cut vertical, but all in all everything went well. I lost about 6 pounds due to large fibroids and looked about six months pregnant.

I will be praying for you that all goes well and you will have a speedy recovery.

Did or does any of you have big fibroids because that is the need for my surgery. I need a vertical incision. My doctor explored me going on Lupron just to try to shrink them a little. But she said there is no guarantee. Also, Im scared to take Lupron. Any thoughts?
Vapfear - I had my hysto this past Wednesday. I am 3 days post-op and I too was very frightened. I had a fibroid that was almost as large as my uterus and my uterus was enlarged, a cyst on one ovary so ovary was removed and my tubes were inflamed so she removed those too and left me with one ovary. I had the fibroid for several years now and was such a heavy bleeder I always felt run down during my periods. I used to go through the box of 36 tampons ALONG with a 24 pack of maxi pads the first two days of my period! I was up during the night bleeding all over the place. Hope that's not too much information...I just want you to know how much I bleed and I did not have a problem with excessive bleeding during surgery. My doctor said I did lose a little bit of blood but not enough to warrant a transfusion. My surgery went very well. I only remember being wheeled into the OR, don't remember being put out and next thing I knew I was in recovery. Other than being nauseous from the anesthesia, I didn't feel too bad nor have too much pain when I woke up. Just make sure to follows your doctor's instructions on what NOT to take prior to your surgery. Just make sure you don't take any ibuprofen, aspirin or anything containing aspirin (including Pepto Bismol). Discuss your fears with your doctor and he/she should be able to set your mind at ease.

Re: Surgery in April, very frightened

I can understand your fears. I have large fibriods that for some reason were not picked up on multiple U/S over a couple of years. Go figure! ANyway I was told in Dec 11 that I now need a TAH/BSO and have a similar fear of bleeding during the surgery. I am trying to just stay positive but as each month passes and I still haven't got the 'call' it is getting more and more uncomfortable and I am feeling less patient. I have been trying to get the Drs to listen to me for about 8 years now and like you I need to have an abdominal incision instead of vaginally because they left it for so long. I am looking forward to when it is done so I can have a better quality of life.

P.S. I should add that I while mine was Laparascopic it was abdominal and not vaginal. For some reason it calms me being able to see my incisions healing rather than if they were vaginal.
